Has anyone here taken a Kaplan (or other) MCAT review course? I was looking at some online and they seem very helpful but they are also pretty expensive. Do you think that it would be worth it to invest in this sort of course?

i studied Exam Krackers on my own. Alot of people do home study and do fine and/or amazing. Save yourself the money for apps, practice tests, interview, etc.

Based on what i've heard the classes are just there to give you structure. You don't need to pay for someone to pump you up for the MCAT.

None of us have ever even heard of Kaplan... are you sure you looked at the right MCAT?

I'll bite:

I took a Kaplan course. By chance, I had a great teacher and it really helped me review my material. However, Kaplan was an effective learning tool for me because it forced me to study before every class. I certainly wouldn't have done as well without that constant pushing. If you feel like you can study efficiently and for extended periods without a "class" forcing you to, by all means skip the class. The material isn't overly difficult, theres just a lot of it, so you really have to jump in and commit.

I am more of a fan of Princeton review.

If your an independent studier I would recommend just trying to find the books somewhere and going through them on your own.

I took a Kaplan course for MCAT prep. It's expensive but I felt I needed the class structure. With such a large amount of material and only about 2 months to study, it worked pretty well for me. If you can set your own schedule and stick to it, I think buying a combo of prep books would be the most affordable option.
