MCAT score importance

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Some say that verbal best correlates with Step performance. Most people say as long as they're not very unequal, it doesn't matter.

Does it matter which section of the MCAT is more important (verbal, bio, chem)
Some say VR, but others have shown that it's not.

And some say the BS and PS are better indicators of future success.

Everything considered, I honestly don't know. Although I hope the schools I apply to follow the latter train of thought. :meanie:

Someone cited a source that the correlation between medical schools success was BS > PS >> VR. I believe it was from NCBI.

But that's contrary to what the others just said, but makes more sense to me.

In my opinion, I think the verbal score is more indicative of overall intelligence. BS and PS are mostly based on what you know, whereas the VR is more based on what you can digest and interpret in a discrete period of time.

In any case, your scores should be fairly balanced. Scores over 10 is generally the accepted standard for a "good" MCAT score.

Basically.

As an applicant, you want 10+/10+/10+, regardless if it's a 10 or a 15.

The writing section is clearly the most important :meanie:

Thank you for all the replies!

@jesse: lol but the writing section is going away next year
