So my problem is that I often get frustrated while studying for the MCAT. I will read over a section for about an hour and then I will do practice problems. I feel confident when doing them, but then when I correct them, I am getting most of them wrong and then I get angry which makes me concentrate less and study worse. I then get pissed off and then just end up closing the book. I just started studying not too long ago, any suggestions on how to not get frustrated?

In my opinion, the best way to learn is from your mistakes. Knowing what you don't know is the first step to studying effectively. The key after seeing the answer is wrong is to really understand why it is wrong. Once you have accomplished this, you can be sure you won't make the same mistake on the real test.

Welcome to life. Theres a reason why the MCAT exists- it's like a high level boss you need to defeat in order to prove yourself worthy of its treasure. If you're unable to handle the psychological duress of this exam, its highly unlikely you'll survive the boards. Think about that

The same thing happened to me, but just try your best to stay focused and positive. Remind yourself that you're just starting and there is still a lot to learn. You'll see noticeable improvements along the way. Don't get discouraged. You made it this far already. You can do it. Just keep pushing forward. Good luck.

I recommend running/other exercise when you're stressed out! 😎 Also, smile....

I had the same frustration when studying for my MCAT last year. The biggest mistake I made was going over the answers and moving on before I made sure that I really understood where I went wrong. This is where having a tutor or study group comes in handy. The perspective of others can help you realize where your true weaknesses are. My advice is to really value the practice questions you have available. Blowing through tons of questions without taking the time to analyze the thought process for each one doesn't benefit you in the end. Keep at it though, you'll make progress as long as you put in the time.

I can totally relate to your frustration! When I first started studying for the MCAT, I found myself getting more wrong than I had originally thought. But you just gotta persevere! If you put the time into correcting your answers and understanding them (why you got it wrong and why a certain answer is correct) then you will start to see big improvements. Good luck with your studying!
