Hi all,

Did anyone here take the MCAT this past late July or early August, specifically the July 28, 29, and August 5, 6 test dates, and apply to the TX Schools?

If so, did you feel this was WAY too late to take the MCAT?

Did you have trouble obtaining interviews?

Final question:

How would one best prepare for applying to medical school if he is taking the MCAT at one of these late test dates and applying to only TX schools?

I wasn't sure whether to post this on the Pre-med forum or MCAT forum, sorry.

Thanks!

In general, have your app ready to go and submitted ASAP so that, at the least, you're not waiting for it to get verified. I'm not sure if TMDSAS will verify your app without the MCAT score, but if you're ready to submit regardless, then it can't hurt.

As far as timing, a girl that I knew here that graduated last year took her MCAT in August, so her scores weren't ready until September. She ended up with a couple of acceptances, but I think she regretted taking the test so late and I have no idea what the rest of her app looked like (i.e., if she was a mediocre or extraordinary applicant). If you can avoid it, I wouldn't take it that late. Or at least prepare and plan to take it in April or May and, if need be, reschedule your test if you're not prepared.

I second Cole. Make sure everything else is in well before September (TMDSAS, LORs, transcripts, etc.) The verification can take a super long time.

If your application is complete in September, schools will get it around October, putting you in line for a November/December interview. IMO, it's incredibly unlikely that you'll get a prematch offer, but there is always the match and tons of people get in this way. You will be fine. Texas med schools are extremely good and not as competitive to get into as other schools in the country. you'll be fine

I took my second time mcat on july 15 this year and submitted application on august 10. As that is the time my results where out. I applied to all texas school and have not heard from single one so far. I was told by my health advisor, that it was kind of late. I am still hopeful. Go ahead and take your chance if your rest of the application is complete, but if you can prepone your mcat day and apply early it will make a world of difference.

mcat 32 M and gpa 3.56, Decent ec but had very little volunteer experience.

Don't take it later than May

Don't take it later than May

I totally agree with this... Do it well before June if you can... That way when you submit your application, everything is basically ready to be sent. It makes a huge difference for having a shot at Texas schools.

I took the July 28 mcat and applied in Texas. I would say June is the absolute latest and may is ideal. If you can get everything submitted by July it increases your chances a lot.

If i remember correctly the TMDSAS recommends taking it in Jan the year before you want to apply. For what it's worth...
