I am told by some that submitting my AMCAS application before having my MCAT scores will not hold my place in line and is basically pointless, but by others that I should submit my application before I have my scores, and simply update the application once I get the score. The latter source is the one that tells me that the schools would not even notice if I add in my MCAT score later, so submitting asap would increase my chances of acceptance, since most schools start at the top of the stack (applicants who submitted first). I am taking the test in mid July, so I won't get my scores until mid-August. Is this really considered early-mid cycle if I submit my application then? I do not know who to believe because both are trusted sources (pre-med advisor and MCAT prep course people). Would taking a mid-July MCAT be considered even slightly late?

Thanks!!

You can submit your AMCAS without your MCAT score and it will go through the verification process. I would highly recommend doing this. Do not wait until August to submit your AMCAS

Submit your app as early as humanly possible. There's no reason at all to delay. Your MCAT scores will automatically go through as soon as you get them. It takes like a few weeks to go through the whole verifying process. Also, yeah, July is pretty late, but it's not the worst. May 30th is about the latest you should go, and even that's sort of late.

Well, that's a little extreme. By May 30th means you'll still have your scores in time before AMCAS even gets released to the schools...how is that late?

OP is fine with the July MCAT as long as he does his AMCAS and submits it in June.

Ah, looks like I messed up the dates. Good to know anyways! I feel better now!

I submitted early and had my scores uploaded later last cycle. When my scores came back, I used the opportunity to write a little note to each school telling them my scores were available. I got interviews at two schools within two days of the email.

Nice. When did you take your MCAT?

I assume this is directed to me.

I submitted June 2nd and took the June 20th MCAT. Scores didn't come back until like July 24th.

I haven't been through the application process, but wouldn't submitting the primary early July be just as effective considering the MCAT scores will come mid-August anyway?

I'm taking the mid-July MCAT as well. Good luck OP! 👍
