There is no reason for the aamc to take over a month to release scores. This is ridiculous with computerized tests. If it is the essay that takes so long to grade then they should take their time on that. For 250 dollars I need instant results like most other standardized tests. If Doctors have any influence on the aamc I will vote to replace it with an organization that is actually efficient and does what we pay them to do. 30-35 days unacceptable.

Fees go up 12.5%, writing section gets removed...and grading times stay the same.

I think of it more like an involuntary psych hold.

Get used to it. Step 1 scores can take even longer.

It never ends and isn't just limited to the AAMC. The NBME runs the USMLE steps and will take months to get you your results as a med student and resident. Beyond that, once you are out of residency and are a licensed physician you'll find that board certification results from medical boards like the ABIM take 2-3 months to come back even though they are also computer exams. Waiting up to 12 weeks for these test results is the norm unfortunately.

I think the wait is to prevent people from signing up to take another test; So, why sign up for a retest if you're gunna end up canceling it because you find out you did AMAZING?!

I was told otherwise by a physician. He may have been wrong. All I know is that the wait time was brutal, and I'm glad it ended.

I'm glad. Go grab a beer and celebrate, man. I have a corona sitting in the fridge waiting for Thursday. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks it's psycho-sadism served up AAMC-style. The wait is to dissuade against over-utilization of their services. You wait a month for the scores, and if you don't do well, you spend a 1-2 months preparing for the next administration. At most, you take the test twice or thrice in one cycle. If you know your scores immediately, you might have the opportunity to sit in on more administrations, which might overload their system (or take seats away from 1st or 2nd time test takers).
