Assuming you aren't a URM with a 3.65/26 you are a far better DO candidate than MD. ON top of that the 123 verbal which translates to a 6-7 on the old scale is particularly troublesome. Your MCAT is below the 10th percentile at all NJ schools, several points below in fact actually.

If your goal is to start medical school next year I would strongly recommend adding DO schools. Skip the ones with high MCAT averages like AZCOM, CCOM and the coastal Touros to name a few as well as perhaps those with significant IS or regional biases. If you are gunning for the MD and MD only, you basically have to re-take and be accepting of the idea there is a very good you will be a re-applicant next year.

If you had any shot, you kind of killed it by not applying until September.

If you have luck anywhere it will be Cooper because they are more forgiving on stats and you have a ton of community service.

Hi,

I would really appreciate some feedback on my chances of getting accepted into MD schools. I am a NJ resident, applied to 26 MD schools in NY, NJ and PA areas.

My GPA is a 3.65, MCAT 501 (~25-26) ~55% percentile 127PS, 123 VR, 126BS, 125P&S
I think I have a strong EC, but my MCAT is seriously hurting me
- 500 community service hours, mentoring and tutoring HS students from underserved communities through AmeriCorp and other programs
- 200 hours of tutoring upper level science classes
- 500 hours of research

I also applied as a First Generation College Grad and Disadvantaged Applicant if this even makes a difference.

* I was complete in Sept , have been placed on pre-interview hold from GW and SUNY Upstate, all the other schools have been silence..... so far.

PLEASE HELP,

It's a little late for advice for this year on the MD side... You've already selected a relatively long list of schools, and it's late enough that adding others (if your original list wasn't optimal) would be unlikely to help considering the average GPA, below average MCAT. Because of how long the process takes, you will likely not know how this season will treat you until it's too late to make arrangements for next year. I've been complete between 2-3 months at many places, though just the other day I got an e-mail 2 months after submission saying my application was complete... Point being: not hearing much yet makes complete sense if you're complete in Sept. You could have 2+ months before you hear anything.

DO schools could be more forgiving. Rowan is a great option for NJ residents, and your GPA is slightly above the matriculation average, though your MCAT is still a little low. If you submit DO apps, it would be worth it to apply somewhat broadly, and promptly.

I'd either get your DO app in ASAP, or sit and wait until around Feb. If you don't hear anything by then, you have ~3 months to study for the April or May MCAT and can submit your application earlier/stronger. A higher MCAT is key, but additional EC's (in the coming year) could help as well.

You really ought to put an app into Rowan and a couple other DO schools.

Not trying to bash you, bro, but with your stats you should have been completed with everything by late July. As someone else said, you really killed the little chance you had by applying late. Best of luck - I'd apply to DO Schools now and make that $600ish commitment for AACOMAS

Well, here's one example of SDN being completely false. Everyone told the OP she had no chance, and she made it despite her stats and lateness in applying...
Quick question. How do you know she got accepted?

OP what school did you get accepted to? Also for DO schools, people kept saying the application cycle is different. Is there a link for that or a thread for it? I always thought you apply to DO along with MD???

Can you share school list you applied. My daughter is in similar stat.

I can't tell you her list, but my exemplary online stalking skills have led me to believe OP accepted at Cooper Medical :angelic::nod:
