Was just thinking about how the mcat is graded since I'm waiting for my score in a few weeks and had a question. I could be misunderstanding how the mcat is graded but what are the odds that someone takes the mcat ina day when only lots of other smart people take it and said person gets 85% of the questions correct per section but ends up scoring sub 500 because everyone else who took it then just did that much better. Possible? Chances of that?

According the AAMC AMA on reddit, the curve is only a slight adjustment. They say that your scaled score is generated from the number of correct responses and then slightly adjusted when comparing to other's scores. Each test day has roughly 3600 students so I doubt they have much fluctuation with the average intelligence of each group. I guess you could assume that dates later in the year have more students that are retaking which would indicate less intelligent students. Just focus on your exam and don't worry about a 1 or 2 point fluctuation that you could get from smarter/dumber test takers on your test day.
