My job has me at a smaller unfamiliar hospital for a few weeks. They have the McCoy blade for DL, which I've never seen before now. It's easy enough to use, im just curious if other people use it or think it accomplishes something the more standard blades don't. Is this something anybody uses routinely?

What’s different about it?

It looks like a MAC blade but the tip can articulate upwards ti help lift the epiglottis.

With video laryngoscopes now, I dont think these odd blades have much purpose.

Oh, it has like a lever thing to squeeze on the back of the handle to help lift the epiglottis right? Haven’t seen one of those in forever.

Ok, that's what i thought....so useful possibly in austere settings where the glidescope/reliable electricity isn't an option...otherwise probably not.

Yeah it seems pointless. If you can sneak the tip of the blade under the epiglottis then what does elevating it even more do for you? Except to elevate the entire larynx further out of view

Sounds like the 'ol flipper blade. That is an example of an idea that I came up with, found out it existed, used it, and I realized my idea apparently wasn't that good.

Interested in helping me develop the "Shep" blade? It's this idea I have for a blade that is identical to a Mac but the handle has a little button that you can press that when you get a good view of the cords plays the airhorn noise and a bunch of LEDs on the handle light up

Pair it with an ETT that blows confetti out the back end when it goes through the cords and I’m in.
