Does how early you apply have any significance? I'm wondering if it means that you are a better candidate in the eyes of the admission committee if you interview early. Thanks!

Yes, apply early. You need every advantage you can get. The competition at MCG is getting tougher than in years past. The current freshman class actually has two MDs.

i don't know if it's better or worse to interview early. some of the faculty told me it's a good sign to interview early, but i interviewed with the very first group last year and i think at least half the group got rejected. in general, it's a good sign to get an interview at all, and when you interview isn't as important as how you interview and what your application looks like. (in my opinion).

They changed the way they are accepting people. Last year was more of a "rolling" basis, and they decided on people after each interview. By the last interviews, the class was virtually full. This year, to avoid that problem, they are waiting until all the interviews are through before they start making decisions.

Actually i talked to them after i got rejected (after interview) last year and this is what they told me.....They automatically give interviews to people who have above a dat 18+ with gpa 3.0+. The order of your interview and when you apply doesn't mean that much to mcg as in comparison to all of the other dental schools b.c. they basically compare you to the people you are interviewing with. They accept everyone at the same time which means they go back and look at everyone who has interviewed regardless of when you interviewed. If you get a late interview your chances are EQUAL to the ones who interviewed in the first slot. If it's your second interview then you basically have a higher chance to get in. If it's your first interview don't get your hopes up. They compare you to all of the other people of your ethnicity so make sure you aren't comparing yourself to anyone else but those people b.c. that's how they accept and that's how they pull from the waitlist (if a white female declines her acceptance they pull another white female off of the list regardless if there is someone else above her). I hope I am not sounded discriminatory I am just telling you how they do it truthfully so you can know. Hope that helps.

Well, within the last week, I was told that they accepted people last year as they interviewed. This year, I was told they are waiting until the end to give everyone an equal chance.

Unfortunately, MCG has become one of the most "political" schools around. And, it totally depends on who you talk to, what time of day you talk to them, and whether they have had their Wheaties or not 🙂
