Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone applied to the Qualifying Year for McGill's MSc.PT program for Fall 2009. I'm still waiting hear back about interviews, and was wondering if anyone has heard anything. I hope to hear from someone soon! 🙂

Cheers!

I just interviewed with them last week. They told me there were about 15 open spots for the QY and these 15 spots will be combined with the 60 students who are enrolled in the pre-PT program at McGill. The interview was pretty basic and they were very friendly. They will let me know their decision around the end of May. I would love to attend this program!! Are you from Canada?

Thanks for the reply. Pre-Pt program, eh? I hadn't heard about that. I'm still waiting to hear if I'll be invited for an interview. I'm beginning to think that I might be out of luck. I graduated with a BMus from McGill last year - I eventually want to be a PT for musicians/performers.

I'm originally from western Canada, but I have been living in Montreal for 4 years now. How about you? What's your education background?

Anyway, congrats on getting the interview! It sounds like they are being very selective, so you deserve a pat on the back!!

Cheers!

Hi Shmex,
I think I'm in the same boat as you...haven't heard a thing from McGill about interviews : (
Bruindpt, if you're comfortable sharing, could I ask what your GPA was? I'm curious to know what the cut off may be for interviews. Hopefully you hear soon if you get one of the 15 spots!
Shmex, fingers crossed they'll still be doing a few more interviews!

Hey Still2,

Wow, all of the McGill applicants seem to be coming out of the woodwork! I thought I was the only one on here for so long, since this is primarily an American forum.

I feel like I have been waiting forever! I've been in touch with some students who are currently in the PT program at McGill - they said that at this time last year, most people had been accepted, and there were considerably more of them. I guess there is still just under a month left in their "rolling application", so yes, I'll keep my fingers crossed for the both of us.

What's your education background, if you don't mind me asking? Where are you from? 🙂

Hey Shmex!
My undergrad is in theatre and I'm currently a yoga teacher. I'm also from out west, but I've lived in Montreal for a couple of years.
I actually just called McGill this morning to try to get an update (my minerva status still says 'ready for review', so i wasn't sure if they'd even looked at it yet). I was told that they are still processing applications and I'll be contacted by email. I asked about interviews and she said they're doing some interviews every week. So I asked if that means they've selected the first bunch of successful applicants for interviews and if the program isn't filled they'll go on from there (that's how i understand rolling admission to work), but she said they're still processing the applications. So, to be honest I don't really know what that means! It still gives me some hope, so I guess we just have to wait and see.

Hey Still2,

OK! So, we don't have to feel completely rejected just yet! 🙂 Funny that you come from a theatre background - I studied quite a bit of theatre as well before I went on to do my music degree at McGill. As non-sciencey students, we are definitely in the minority, so I certainly hope they mean it when they encourage students from all backgrounds to apply.

If you hear anything new, or if you end up getting an interview, let me know! I will do the same. This waiting game is agonizing!!

Cheers!

I'll definitely let you know if I hear anything. I agree, the waiting is worse than anything! It would just be nice to know one way or the other so that I can figure out what the next year is going to look like! Hopefully it won't be much longer now...

Hey guys,

I still havent heard back from them yet since my interview but they told me that I would be notified within the next two weeks.

I have a BA in Sociology from UCLA. My overall GPA was 3.3 and my pre-req GPA was about 3.7. I am originally from Vancouver but moved to Los Angeles for undergrad. I also applied to the program at UBC and got an interview there but was placed on the wait list.

I'm pretty anxious to hear back from McGill. Will definitely keep you guys posted!!

Hey bruindpt,
Thanks for the info! That's encouraging to hear that they are giving non-B.Sc. students a chance! Hopefully you'll hear soon!

Hey guys,

Thanks for the info, bruindpt- definitely have my fingers crossed for you.

I sent an email to McGill this morning to inquire about my application status. I just want to know if they've actually looked at my stuff yet. Still2 - did you apply for any other programs? What science-related courses have you completed up to now?? I'd just like to get a move on with other programs' prereq courses, but there's no point in starting those until I know for sure about McGill. Bah! This is so brutal. 🙁

Hey Shmex,
This year I only applied to McGill as I'm lacking prereqs for most other programs. So if I don't get in to McGill this year, I'll be doing prereqs asap. In my undergrad I did a kines course and a psyc course as well as some movement and experiential anatomy courses. I'm currently taking a 6 credit biology course through Athabasca University, Human Anatomy and Physiology. I've applied as a special student to McGill for the fall as well so that I can hopefully take a couple classes if need be, though I've heard it can be hard to get into classes.
Hopefully McGill replies to your email soon and you get an answer that's less vague than the info I received on the phone!
I feel the pain of wanting to know what move to make next! Fingers crossed for both of us!

Has anyone heard from McGill since interviewing for a spot in the qualifying year (PT)? I interviewed back in April but still haven't heard, they said the first round of admission offers would go out mid-late May.

Well, I am officially 'refused' admission for this year. Hope the rest of you had better luck! If you got an interview/admission, would you mind sharing what kind of anatomy, etc classes you took? I'm planning on doing some classes this year to boost my application for next year, so any advice would be much appreciated!

Hey everyone.

I found this thread and thought I should join. I was given an interview at mcgill as well on the 20th of April. They are really making us wait eh? I am extremely curious as to whether any of you have heard anything back from McGill regarding their PT program?

On a good note, they bumped the admissions from 15 to 20 people. Yay.

I still havent heard back either. I also interviewed late April.

On a side note, does anyone have information on upon graduating from the McGill program would it be possible to practice in the States? The program has not been accredited by the APTA, unlike University of Toronto or Western Ontario U. Do you know of anybody who has graduated from McGill and is practicing somewhere else besides Canada and what is the process to do so?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

I had no idea what waiting was until I applied to McGill. How's everyone coping? lol is anyone else going over their interview constantly in their heads? I can't seem to decide whether it was good or bad.

In any case, I think the decisions for entry are made next week (end of June).

Did anyone actually get a response yet?

Get back at me folks.

I feel the same about the interview.

At this point, after waiting four months, it feels like the answer is never going to come. Like time has slowed down to a painfully lethargic crawl, and everything else is on hold.

But... hang in there! Soon, we will know.

Hey everyone,

If you want a quick idea of how you did check your minerva account. Its been updated!

Eager to know how everyone faired!

Have a great day.

So? Did you get in RainStar? My status has still not been updated...

Hello everyone, I got accepted last week. I had to decline the offer since I already decided to study at a program here in the States. Had I heard back from them earlier, it might have been a different story. Good luck to all of you and hope you guys get in!

I just got my answer this morning
"Refused"
I will try to find out why and share it with those who still care
Good luck to everyone else still waiting!

Hi
the last post about mcgill interviews was last year...has anyone gotten an interview this year (2010)
if anyone has heard anything or has any information, pls post it!!

Hi,
I applied to both OT and PT programs at McGill with OT as my first choice. I just found out yesterday that I've been refused for OT, still pending PT.. not sure why. I'm an honours student in sociology, I've taken prereq courses in physiology and anatomy through my university and I'm currently working at Sun Life taking underwriting courses focusing on the same course material. I really had my heart set on McGill so it threw me off a little that I wouldn't even be called for an interview.

Ohh, sorry about OT. I called mcgill and the lady told me if they give you and interview, ud find out by email. if not, itll be updated on minerva...
gahhhh i hate waiting :S

Hi, I just got an email today offering me an interview early May for the OT program! Anyone else hear anything??

Hey Congratulations and good luck!!

I'm still waiting to hear about PT.
Fingers crossed.!

I'm going crazy! My application to OT has remaind as "Ready for Review" for weeks! I wish they would just make up their minds one way or another--McGill is definitely not the most organized place.
Anyone else heard more about refusals/interviews?

Hey All,
Did anyone get any acceptances in any other PT schools in Canada yet?

I only applied to U of Alberta and I haven't heard a peep. I'm hoping any day now... :xf:

Where did you apply?

HI Danae00,
I've applied to U of A as well, and Western and Queens.:xf:!!

If I don't get in this year I defiitely will be adding Western to my list next year and maybe Queens as well. But I really want to stay in the West.

I'll post here as soon as I hear anything from U of A! I would appreciate it if you would do the same. I'm so paranoid that somehow the email will get blocked and I'll miss out just because of a technical glitch. Embarassing, but true....😳

Heyy!!
Yes of course I will post as soon as I hear back,.......can't wait.
Good Luck and let me know :luck:

Hi everyone,
Still no word from mcgill, but its still april so theres lots of time :S

I was wondering how much the average physiotherapist makes. Also how does the pay vary depending on where you work? Would you make more or less working in a hospital versus working on a university campus...

Also, what is involved in advance practice physiotherapy?

thanks!!

Rumour Time!

Note: This is third hand info so I don't know how accurate it is. Take this with a grain of salt. And please don't throw things at me if I'm wrong. 😛

Apparently UofA was a bit delayed in getting started with sending out notifications. They have just started but it may be two weeks or so until they are done. I have no idea if this means only those with offers will be notified in the next two weeks, of if that includes those waitlisted and rejected as well.

To sum it up: It could be any day now! 😀 😱 😀

I'm sure how much you make depends on what part of the country you are in and what type of environment you are in. From what I understand private practice tends to pay more than public.

For instance, average info for Alberta (private & public):
http://alis.alberta.ca/occinfo/Content/RequestAction.asp?aspAction=GetHTMLProfile&format=html&occPro_ID=71003150

You may be able to find information for the collective bargaining agreement for the hospitals in the area online. Again, for Alberta here is the salary appendix:

Guess it wasn't a rumour -- got an email yesterday and I'm in at UofA 😀

I probably won't be around these boards for a while, but good luck to everyone still waiting! :xf:

Wow! Congratulations!
I Still haven't heard back🙁
but am hoping any day now..

I'm having my McGill OT interview on Monday afternoon! Now that everything is coming down to the wire, I'm getting nervous 🙂

Princess,
Was that for OT or PT? I'm still waiting to hear back from PT - the application still says Ready for Review for me. I'm going crazy over here.
So frustrating!!!

guys, don't worry about the minerva status, that's not as up to date. I got an email about 2 weeks ago and it was for OT not PT. I would suggest making sure they have your right email. or maybe call them if you're getting really anxious. either way: if there's no answer, then it's not a "no"! 🙂 good luck!

Here are the questions I got in my interview:
- When did you decide you want to be an OT and why?
- Tell me about your work and volunteer experiences.
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- Tell me about a time you were faced with a difficult situation and how did you resolve it?
- Did you consider other careers?
- Tell me about your group work experience.
- Do you speak French?
- Do you have any physiology/anatomy background?
- How will you balance school life with social life?
- Do you plan on having a part-time job while studying?
- Would you be willing to go outside the province to do a placement and pay for the expenses yourself?
- Teach us something (they give you a few choices).

I think that's it! Hope it helps! 🙂

hahaha YES
It would be awesome if they ask similar questions for PT interviews.
Where r u from btw? and do u speak french?

Anyone else hear back from McGill or Alberta PT?

Have you been checking your U of A email account? I believe that is the only way they are contacting people (no phone calls, no letters, no updating BearTracks).

If so, then I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I'm pretty sure U of A has sent out all of their initial acceptance offers. I don't know if they have sent wait list and rejection notices out yet though, so you may still have a shot.
