Hi there,

Actually, I'm based in Toronto too, and given that I'll be applying to the Canadian schools too, I do know a wee bit about McGill.

Here's what I've heard: McGill has an excellent reputation as a medical school and as the above poster noted, on par with other schools in Ontario (and Canada). McGill also has quotas set for at least three different applicant groups: Quebec residents, Canadian residents and US residents. Much to some Canadians' chagrin, McGill's quota of seats for US residents is much larger than that for non-Quebec, Canadian residents. (The ratio is something in the order of 6:1). I'm not sure how many US applicants there are, yearly, to McGill, but the odds of success if you are a US resident can't be too bad compared to the odds of the same at Harvard, UCLA, etc.

The requirements to gain entry to McGill closely mirror those for entry to most US programs, e.g., similar course requirements. They do, however, have a fairly strict MCAT cut-off of 30.

If I were you I'd give McGill a closer look.

Cheers,
Kirsteen
