From Interview Feedback and a few threads I've noticed a large discrepancy in how some people's MCO interviews went. Some said they were extemely friendly and laid back, but I specifically remember some saying that theirs were downright antagonistic (I think it may have been exmike, but I'm not really sure). If anyone could post or PM me their specifics on their MCO interviews I'd greatly appreaciate it 🙂 -- I'm interviewing there at the end of January (my first med school interview ever :scared: and I'm a bit nervous)

Yup , that was me. in the "awkward interview moments" thread.

fortunately i wont have to face that guy again. i think it really depends on who you talk to, the first guy was really cool.

my friend probably also posted up on there...

he didnt have a good time at the mco interview either.

he got a guy that was basically testing him on whether he knew his health care stats or not and was being pretty rude about it.

so yeah. but i guess the reasons are that some people get the punks and some dont.

I also commented on the interview at MCO. It think it was pretty clear that exmike and I had the same interviewer, a transplant surgeon for the digestive tract, I seem to recall. It was certainly the worst 30 minutes I had ever spend with somebody in conversation. Every cliche about medical school interviews manifested themselves in glorious detail that afternoon in his office. Telling him what I "saw" in a picture; describing why I love my wife in five words of less, what qualities I possess that will enable me to be a doctor - all one word answers, etc, etc.

At the end he told me that he did not have a good sense of why I wanted to practice medicine, and that I was probably making a mistake. But then he gave me a "high accept" on the interview scale (the only higher rating is "high accept with scholarship"). BTW, the second guy game me a "high accept with scholarship" but I was offered no money when accepted. So... whatever that means.

I remember one curious thing about the meeting session before the interviews. The main guy actually told us that if we felt that we did not get along with an interviewer, they would be more than happy to add an additional interviewer. I wonder if anybody has taken him up on this offer.

Exactly right. Although, even if I get into CCLM, there is still a 50/50 chance I'll go to Case. I'm older and the extra year is weighing on me.

Hi there,

I had a great interview experience. My first interviewer asked me a lot about comparing the Canadian and American healthcare systems (I live in Canada). He specifically focused on the case of a drug addict, and why the addict deserved continued treatment in Canada even after being given treatment and continuing to OD. At first, I felt as if the interviewer was grilling me hard, but later he admitted that he was just testing if I could stand my ground on my beliefs and values.

The second interview was with the associate dean of admissions ( i think...the man who has a DDS). He was very nice, and the interview was more of a conversation about the direction of health care and medical education. Very laid back.

All in all, great day. If you want to know anything more, just PM me.

Good luck!

thanks for the replies everyone, I really appreciate it. I don't know what I'd do without you guys on SDN!
