here is a link to the 2005-2006 cost of tuition/living, which is looking pretty accurate as I am calling to set up my gas, electric, rent, etc.

I like both schools a lot. What are your pros/cons of each school?
Any help would be greatly appriciated guys!
Maybe this will help... I looked at both schools, won't be attending either, but MCO seemed much more professional, nicer facilities, and a better atmosphere. Dayton and Toledo are about the same, as far as location goes. If I were picking, I would go with MCO. Good luck!

I interviewed at both schools and I liked them both. I feel like MCO has better technology and facilities but I felt that Wright State might have better hospitals to do your rotations at. I am from Fairborn, where Wright State is technically located, and I feel like this area is much nicer than the Toldeo area. Since Wright State is really like 10 min from dayton, there is a lot less crime and there are some very nice suburbs like Beavercreek and Huber Heights to get an apartment and go out with friends.
Also I was curious, when did MCO contact you and where in Ohio do you live?
It has been another week and I have only moved one spot (from 5 to 4). The lady in the admissions office said two people are currently holding multiple acceptances and another just got an offer from a school today. She said she has never seen the waitlist move so slow but that I should feel okay about it because there is still a month left.
I'm starting to have doubts though.

I dont believe this waitlist is moving so slow. When I first called around mid may, they told me that I was in the middle third of the top third, then in mid june, I decided to call them again, and found out I was in the top third of the top third, now it's through the first week of July, and apparently there hasnt been much movement at all.
I am also waitlisted at Wright State, but I'm really hoping for MCO, or MUO rather. ANyway, for those of you who will be at MCO, i really do hope to see you all there in august.
I'm only accepted at a OU for their D.O. program, and I havent even started to look for a place to live there yet because I assumed the list wouldnt be this slow.
They told me to call back in two weeks, and classes start two weeks after that, and now that is stressful.
now I just have to sit and stew for a while.

I assume you are on the instate list?
Alpha,
Have you considered putting in an application at both an apartment in Athens and an apartment in Toledo? That way you would at least have a place to live either way. My application fee at Heather Hills in Toledo (which went toward my security deposit) held a unit for me and it was only $50.

Yah, I thought about that, and for some reason I just didnt do it. ANd now i dont even have much time to look for one which is major ass.

Check out the MCO class of 2009 thread on the allo forum or just do a search for it. We've talked about several different possibilities and uploaded an Excel file that listed several different complexes. If you need any help with Toledo apartments PM me and I'll give you some advice.
anyone here still holding out for MCO also?
I'm still waitng but don't have much hope left. I called last Friday, and in a week and a half the list had not moved one spot. I am number 4 on the instate waitlist and I don't think I am going to make it. This really sucks.alphapenguin said:anyone here still holding out for MCO also?
I called yesterday, and the lady told me that there hadn't been virtually any movement in the last two weeks. However, I did get her to tell me a ranking (between 15-20 people ahead of me), which up to this point, they would not give me. All they would say was that I was in the bottom third of the top third. Anyway, she said if I call back in two weeks, they'll have a much better picture of if they'll be able to get to my name or not. Don't lose hope. Oh, and by the way, I'm on the out of state WL.
last year, about 2900 people applied to MUO. this year, with waitlists barely moving, i'm guessing that tons more applied. maybe around 3500 ... maybe even more?
ok orientation starts aug 15. has anyone received information as to when tuition is due? in fact, has anyone received information since the newsletter was sent out? i thought that i'd be receiving tons of stuff in the mail from MUO, but i guess not.

i talked to the admissions, and they told me that this year, there has not been anything different about the size of applicants, so they have no idea why everyone is holding on to their acceptances this year. This seems to be the case at many schools this year.
For you guys still waiting on MCO, do you guys have other options? I'm about to give up all hope and not think about it anymore (less painful).

I can definitely sympathize with everyone still hoping for a spot. I was in the same situation last year and did not get in. It was tough sitting around at work hoping to get the big call. From what I can gather waitlist movement this year seems slightly worse than last year (which was also a slow one). I'd like to wish you all good luck and offer one piece of advice: if you don't get in this year make the best of it. Do all the things you won't have time to do as a med student.
so what did you end up doing?

This whole waiting game really sucks. Last week I called and found out the waitlist hasn't moved in two weeks. So I figured I would go ahead and finish my AMCAS and submit it for the next year. However the admissions lady told me I should probably wait at least two weeks because I still had a good chance (#4 on instate) and that MUO doesn't even start looking at next years appliations until August 1st.
I also called Cincy, where I am in the top third, and was told the same thing. Don't submit yet because they don't start looking at the applications until August.
This process is really making go crazy. Being in limbo this entire summer has seriously felt like torture. I wish I could just know yes you are in or better luck next year. Its really difficult thinking about the future and trying to prepare for the MCAT again knowing that I still might be in this year.
How are you guys who are still on the waitlist dealing with this and have you guys given up hope yet?

I went out and got a job in the medical device industry as a research associate. It was a great experience for me and I'm actually glad I had a chance to take a year off from school. Getting a paycheck every other week and not having to study on the weekends is quite nice.
I feel your pain kskuwik. Last year I was on 2 waitlists and neither school would give me any indication of my position. It was pure torture every weekday wondering whether or not I would get in. Although I was disappointed when all hope was lost for last year's application cycle, it was also a relief just to be able to move on with my life. As tough as it may be, you just have to suck it up and remain focused on your long term goals.
the timing for medical school applications/admissions is absolutely horrific. honestly, it could not be any worse. i think things need to be changed such that people can get definite answers much earlier in the year, because having the end of one cycle overlap with the beginning of the next is ridiculous. i guess another solution would be to automatically drop people who hold multiple acceptances past May 15th.
here's an example of how silly things are in the application process: guess what came in the mail today (july 21)? a rejection letter from UIC College of Medicine! The last time I heard from them was Dec 04 when I confirmed that they had received my secondary.

First of all, good luck to everyone else. There is still time before school starts, and I'm sure many others will get plucked off the waiting lists. Anyway, I was approx 15~20 people up on the out of state waiting list, but I got a phone call today from Wake Forest and was accepted. As soon as I matriculate there and everything is official (orientation starts Monday July 25), I'll be withdrawing from the MCO/MUO waitlist. Hope this helps someone else out.
Good luck and keep the faith.
