The main difference is that Worcester is a 3 year accelerated program and Boston is a traditional 6 year program designed for students fresh out of high school. That being said, Worcester has a higher acceptance rate for students who have already completed at least a few years of college and have met the program's prereqs for admission. Boston only has a handful of spots for students transferring into the 3rd year of their 6 year program--the number of spots are dependent on how many students have dropped out in the first 2 years. Worcester class is 150-160 students, plus about 40 at their satellite campus in Manchester, NH. I don't know the size of the Boston classes, but I've heard they're "big" (don't know how to quantitate that) and, as explained above, would mostly be kids right out of high school.

do you have to take the PCAT for Worcester?

Does anyone know the differences between these 3 campuses, besides the location and the numbers of students? I think each campus has its own Pharm D program, but what's about the acceptance rate? Which one that we'll have more chance to get accepted in the program? Also, do all these 3 campuses rely heavily on gpa to select students? I'd appreciate any opinion. Thank you.

boston is 4 year
worcestor is 3 year
manchester is different program, not pharm D. '

MCP boston is a full 4 year professional track.
MCP worcester is an accelerated 3 year program
MCP manchester is also an accelerated 3 year program. The difference between manchester and worcester is that manchester's classes are mainly taught via satellite. Those satellites are actually live-classes via webcams placed in MCP worcester's pharm. classes. The students can interact with the other students from the other campus and the professor.

It's actually pretty neat. I would encourage you to go take a look. Pretty interesting. But then, you have to be able to suffer through the whole 3 years accelerated, and you don't get summer vacation, unlike MCP Boston!

Boston is a 6 year program meant for kids straight out of high school. As a transfer student, it would be a 4 year program.

Worcester and Manchester (both 3 year) are basically the same class. We are taught together as a single class via satellite. Sometimes the prof is in Machester, sometimes Worcester. We always see the other students on the TV screens and can interact via the microphones around the lecture halls. We had the same white coat ceremony and will have the same graduation.

Since Manchester and Worcester tend to attract a slightly older student body, I felt they also considered life experiences, such as work/reasearch/volunteer experience. That's just my own opinion.

As an applicant, you can only apply to one campus.

The school website said that the number of students enrolled in Worcester is 500 and Manchester is 200. Does it mean that there's more chance of getting accepted if applying to Worcester because it takes more students? But the website also says that the acceptance rate (for Pharm D program) at Worcester is 27% whereas it's 34% for Manchester. Just kind of confusing here. Anyone knows about this??

The total number of students (P1,2 &3) are 500 in Worcester. Even though Worcester takes more students, it doesn't mean that it is easier to get in because a lot more students apply for Worcester than Manchester. It is relative... In my opinion, I don't think it is a good idea to apply for Manchester in that you will be taking most of classes via satellite, which is done very professionally, but sometimes it is annoying. By the way, last year ~1400 people applied and ~200 students were accepted for Worcester (~140) and Manchester(~60)

I finished my application (pharmcas and 2ndary appli) in mid september...and i know that boston start interview in november, but I have not heard anything about their invites...has anyone got invites from MCPHS -boston? If so can you tell me when u finished all ur paperwork???

I choose to transfer as a 3rd year (P1) into Boston. The school is ok (new facilities) and the teachers are generally pretty good.

I choose Boston because they city is just amazing. I value my summers (networking as much as possible in non-traditional pharmacy is a goal; something not doable in a 3 year program). Did I mention Boston is great?

Got an interview invite for November 8th (Boston Campus) 🙂
Does anyone know how long the interview is and what to expect? Thanks

Do you remember how long between getting the email that they were reviewing your application to your interview invite? Thx!

Hi,

I was wondering whether anyone knows what the schedule is like for the first year at Worcester campus? I'm only familiar with the schedule for the Boston campus. Is it like classes in the morning/afternoon and labs in the morning/afternoon or they don't have separate times for the labs and classes?

Thanks!

The interview is about 40 minutes and you interview with one faculty member. The questions are pretty general pharm interview questions you can find all over the site. There is also a writing sample but it's not too hard if you passed college writing.
I transferred in this year and I'm a little iffy about the school though. Talk to the students you see and ask them how they like it.

Also the school is only 2 buildings, it gets a little claustrophobic sometimes.

I was wondering if anyone had any insight/feedback they could offer on this school - I have an interview next month (which I didn't expect b/c my gpa isn't the most stellar), and have only seen somewhat dated feedback from other threads. Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated!

"You get what you put into it" is probably the best mentality to have if you come here b/c you have no other options or you really like Boston.

Pros:
- Relatively inexpensive for a private school (compare to USC for example)
- Theoretically you can work as an intern at BIDMC, Brigham, Children's Hospital, etc., within walking distance from the "campus"
- Good lecturers for the "important" courses, like pharmacology

Cons:
- Terrible lecturers for the non-important courses
- Each Pharm.D. class is 300+, so no one here really can talk **** about diploma mills
- Many students here still have that high-school mentality, even those actually in the Pharm.D. program (this being a 0-6 program after all...) for more than two years. Examples: chirp a lot in lecture, chirp a lot while blocking points of egress, hog all the computers to watch K-dramas, play stupid Facebook games, etc., etc.

Totally agree with everything you said! Especially the whole "theoretically work at BIDMC, Brigham, etc" :meanie:

Thanks for the info. 🙂 As for the cons - and specifically the 'high-school mentality' and diploma mills, very familiar with this situation coming from a similar school that is set in the southwest. (Won't say which one)... 🙂

Me too! Did you get accepted as a transfer student? Just curious - do you live in MA or are you coming from out of state?

Someone please clarify!!-->>>

I thought the deadline was February 1st on PharmCAS and that there was no early decisions made before? or is that only if you're transferring into 1st/2nd year?

I interview at Manchester on monday 04/04/11

We'll see how it goes 🙂

I have a question. I am applying to MCPHS either Worcester or Manchester, still not decided! and I noticed that they require TOEFL or something like that from foreign people. Now, I am currently a permanent resident here in the US and I've already taken English classes like Composition, Advanced Composition and American Literature, and I received an A in all of them. I also graduated with a bachelors degree this year. Do you think I still need that exam, or in my case it's not necessary or waived? I mean I seriously don't need it and I speak and write English very well!! another thing I wanted to know. In your opinion, which campus is better and safer, Worcester or Manchester? Thanks in advance for any answers.
