Hi - new to the forum!
I am seriously thinking of making the career change from cognitive science researcher to a physical therapist. Unfortunately, right as I'm having doubts about my current career, and am becoming more inspired to want to apply to PT school, I was diagnosed with Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (MCTD). I basically have an overlap of myositis, lupus (a milder form thankfully), and rheumatoid arthritis. Thankfully, the immunosuppressants and steroids I'm on are making me feel a lot more "normal" (though still a bit stiff at times), and I'm hoping that a new treatment, Benlysta, that I will be trying out soon, may be my "miracle drug."

Going through all of this makes me feel even stronger about wanting to help others overcome mobility issues, and the depression that can unfortunately coincide. My biggest concern, though, is could this disease hinder my performance as a PT? It is, of course, most important that my patients would get the best care possible, and I'm not sure if this disease will keep me from giving that, if I don't get 100% better.

Can experienced PTs please give me insight into how physically demanding their jobs are, and their honest opinion about my situation? I would really appreciate any feedback!
