MCW Class of 2010, Part 3

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
never have I stuffed information in my brain this fast, and I've never had it fall out this quickly either.

I, uhh, well, errr, hmm.

man, I'm on edge. it's a good thing I'm not in a almost-failing position, because I think I'd need some propranolol or Xanax. Geez.

what do those do? Right meow, I can't remember the cephalosporins or any anti-parasitics. However, I do know some anti-fungals and that NSAIDs are COX blockers.

I'm pretty hyped to be done with the pharm.

zolpidem and zaleplon is for teh zonk omega.

Hopefully the one-word-answer gods and goddesses are smiling upon us for this exam. I am in no shape to discuss the finer points of seizure medications.

Side note: I was watching a show about hippies and some chick was seizing due to LSD and the people around her brainstormed and came up with a plan to inject milk into her. She died.

What a shame....if only they had known that it's goat's milk, not cow's milk, that cures LSD induced seizures this tragedy could have been avoided.

Has anyone else picked a new lender? All those back end benefits listed--it doesn't say in a disclaimer that these back end benefits will be discontinued as soon as we flipping feel like it the way it did last time I chose a lender. Anyone know why?

I'm guessing because no lender actually guarantees benefits.

I don't like the choices either, particularly the origination fees. But it's really just a reflection of the current standing of the credit market.

BTW, if you have THE for other loans, they have temporarily suspended benefits and lending. If feasible, they will reinstate in the future. At least that's their plan. They simply don't have any money right now.

I'm guessing that, too. I just want my disclaimer. I like things to be spelled out. It's a thing.

Yeah, same here. As far as I know, the benefits are never included in the promissory note; therefore, not bound by contract. So I'm most likely gonna go with a lender that has 0% origination, hopefully. They can't tack that on later.

I've been perusing the financial aid forum a bit to see if people are talking about any lenders that didn't respond to MCW's request for info, and I'm not seeing much. The market for student lending is pretty grim right now.

I hope THE will get back in at some point, and then I'll probably just consolidate my 6.8% loans into one.

Apparently the government may decide to F*** with the residency relocation loans. May require them going through the school with the COA in the future. Which means estimating what it would cost to interview and the school would NOT be allowed to include living and moving expenses for June and July into the COA. So you'd have to get a private loan after graduating to cover costs until you get paid August 1. Linda P is hopeful this will get straightened out, but it may be messy for the class of 2009 for applying for residency relocation loans.

Anyway, that's probably enough from me for one night.

Bachelor party itinerary:

Miller Brewery Tour - 3:30

Dinner downtown - 7pm

ComedySportz - 10pm

Establishment that serves fermented beverages - ?????

wait, so where's the link actually showing who is still lending? I'm with US Bank.

If you go to the link in the e-mail from fin. aid, there's a little box on the right with a insignificant link in it. You have to create an account there, and then you see the list of vendors. I am so tempted by some of the teaser back end benefits, even though they're probably just so much smoke.

getting smoke blown up your ass? You should be screened for anal melanoma.

that's stupid. why should I have to register? I probably have a thousand accounts scattered across the Internet for things I had to register for.

Because they are mean and hateful and also because you would do the online promissory note through them.

but that means he needs a 70% to high pass and a 93% to honor the class...or something like that.

Lorek essentially made the final a non-issue with the high value of TBL and the autopsy countying for 10 exam points (20% boost on an exam).

M3's, you're about to be replaced. woo!

way to set those standards high!!!!
AOA, here I come. I've definitely studied for more than a 4% though. Most people would need to fail the exam by a huge margin to have more than a very small effect on their grade. We've had seven exams, and this only counts for two more.

M2 is no more. That exam wasn't bad. I think it might have actually been my lowest score overall, but given that it was a cumulative final, it wasn't bad at all. The derm from this block was LAME. Derm should include photos, or it's practically pointless.

pfft. use the power of your imagination, kiddo!

Day Off, The Sequel.

This is fun. I went to an actual med school party last night and had a whole drink. One of my classmates, perhaps stunned at the sight of me leaving the house and doing actual socializing with my colleagues, gave me a big hug when I left. You know how I love the big hugs.

And today, I'm going dancing in Racine and flirting with nuns and swimming. I looked and it turns out I do have legs (who knew under all those scruffy study pants?), so that'll be okay.

Tomorrow, of course, there is studying, but that's tomorrow. Today is about NOT studying.

ha. I went out last night a little. Milwaukee when you're sober is weird. I watched a girl walk into two cars in a row then saw 3 people come within inches of their death while walking across the street. Popped collars are HUGE again, as is swimming in cologn before you go out, apparently.

I don't know if any of you all are runners or bikers but has anyone else noticed that there are always cars parked along that road that goes by the public golf course of of Swan blvd? Each time I run or ride by there are at 2 or 3 cars with a single person in them seemingly doing nothing. Is there some kind of prostitution going on out there? weird.

I don't run out that way.

And now I'm not gonna!

well, i saw a deer and a fawn and about 40 golfers, 2 bikers, 2 runners and a lot of strollers too. Plus, they've just built some kind of pond that you can run around.

Oooh, maybe I should start biking that way again, I'ven't gone biking yet because of the craters outside of the Reserve. Stupid potholes and Milwaukee for not fixing them.

Wow, yeah, that street is beat up. Down by the intersection at 68th there are some holes that'll knock your car out of alignment.

The Hank Aaron trail is pretty nice for a fast ride down town and back. Also, if you take a right at the end of it and go over the bridge there are some sweet mexican food choices right there.

State St. has been under construction almost constantly over the last 4 years and somehow it still looks like crap.

I've never been on the Hank Aaron Trail... I've only ever taken Oak Leaf north then into Brown Deer. I've also been on the trail in Ozaukee Cty.

Seriously. It'll ruin my road bike. grrr. I may have to bust out my mountain bike. It'd be more appropriate. Especially if it ever gets warm.

I'm almost sure that's Tosa right in front of the Reserve.

I've run that route, but that's not something I would describe as fast.

The lowest step 1 score of anyone I know personally is a 231. A guy I know in Tennessee just landed a 262. I'm afraid that come July, I'm going to find out I'm the dumbest student I know.

That's really the lowest step 1 score you know personally? That's above average, btw.

The lowest passing I know of is 185, from my class... I know one of the people that didn't pass and I think one of them got a really low score, like 140s or 160s or something, but obviously my details are lacking a bit on that story.

speaking of biking...there is a 90 mile bike race around a lake somewhere not too far from milwaukee if anyone is interested in spending a day working your liver's NH3 elimination mechanisms.
OTC deficient folks should consult their doctors first.

everyone using USMLE world? the word on the street in the Step 1 forum is that it's the best thing since sliced bread. I'm happy with it thus far.

I heard Kaplan for Step 1, USMLEworld for step 2.

Consensus last year on the Step 1 forum here was that UWorld was the better option for Step 1 as well. Their questions are more concept-driven and have better explanations. Not to mention the cost is about half of Kaplan. I regret having used QBank to this day.

Oh, I was basing it on previous MCW students.

Qbank was great for me.

I have no complaints about Qbank except for the price. Other than that, it did me well. I'll be checking out USMLEWorld for Step II, though.
