MCW Class of 2010, Part 3

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Alright, fine. I rescind my previous comments.

And you two may fight Rachel and Alec, who I believe are the JSU presidents. So there.

Denise, skip the poly-vinyl gloves and go for the nitrile. Ashleigh, if you can swing it, you should try to get nitriles for sale at the AMSA fundraiser. The polyvinyl gloves don't do anything to prevent the formalin smell from getting all over your hands. The first time you eat after anatomy lab will be a treat. I remember bringing my glass of milk to my face and getting a big whiff of cadaver...couldn't drink milk for a week after that.

I think i got some cadaver in my mouth once.

I've suggested it. We'll see if they go along with it, or if it was too late or not.

I agree that nitrile are superior. The cadaver solution will permeat normal gloves, even a double layer. I also recommend a lab coat and not scrubs, bc you will tire of changing into scrub pants, and a lab coat provides protection for your lower torso and upper leg area.

Nope, I'm in our house in Big Bear, CA.

Yeah, me either. I'm starting IVs on cardiac patients in my ambulance...right Marty?

So Dennis (the M4 from last year who's in like every pic in the slide show for app host stuff) made a new video he's trying to get approved, and it's got you in it saying that people should come to MCW because you're here. I got in a couple of photos in it.

awesome.

Why are they letting Diokno make videos for the school? I love that kid...

Thats just hitting below the belt 🙁

Because he didn't like the slide show Phil made (and according to him, neither did Phil), so Dennis made his own. As of right now, Istwan doesn't want to change, so Dennis is sending a copy of the dvd to Kevin who's in charge of the AHP. If lots of people like it more than the slide show and they still don't want to change we'll try to get a bunch of people to complain. So far I took it to Saturday Clinic today and showed it to Marc so he could see himself, and then Mary Buckler because she has a short cameo (but no speaking part).

What's going on??? As former dictator of the AHP, I am semi-interested in this video. It used to be on actual slides, which i decided made us look very 80s, so i suggested something digital that could be easily updated (which apparently never happened). then i talked phil into doing it. now DD has made another one? hmmm...

oh, and for those of you worried about "doctor" responsibilities, this is how i'm spending my trauma call (yes, i realize that that statement just jinxed the hell out of my night...)

The video is awesome. Dennis was tired of being the center feature (or so he felt since he was like in every pic in that slide show), and basically lots of us just thought it was bad, had too many details, applicants asked the same questions over again anyways, etc. Basically, it's time for a change.

Dennis' new video has a few people explaining why they chose MCW, why people should come, views of MKE, a few pictures from the old slide show are still in it, some Bananas and Cream footage footage too. It also has a graduation montage from you guys' class. The song on it now is some Van Halen song (I don't know which one).

sure...they start classes and suddenly they're all too good for us here.

see if i'm nice to you in anatomy lab on wednesday. you're all going to pay.

Sorry. It's all just so intense I suddenly forgot how to type. Now I'm scrambling for an anatomy dissector and getting ready to rush into the library to read textbooks off the reserve desk and turning into a high school freshmen ("What if nobody LIIIIIIKES MEEEEE?") and, you know, I forgot there was a world out there outside of MEEEEEE.

I was just going to post something like this, then I saw yours. So tired last night I forgot about it.

At least you M1s weren't given 2 assignments on your first day of orientation like USC was.

Denise, talk to your big sib. They may have a dissection kit and dissector for you (if you haven't already that is). I know I'm giving mine to my little sib -- once I get it out of the trash bag I put it in, in the bottom of my locker after the anatomy final last December.

Does anyone work out at the lutheran college? I need a gym but bally's is too expensive and the website says the lutheran college only has 1 treadmill. Is their gym any good?

Side note; one of our instructors looks like Jennifer Anniston's manager at the place she works at on Office Space.

I don't know anything about WLC's gym, but you could start out by working out in the Tonken Gym downstairs at MCW. It doesn't seem like much at first, but I've been lifting weights down there for about 5 months and have yet to find a lift I can't do down there. They also have 3 treadmills, a few exercise bikes, some ellipticals and a stairmaster or two as well. Not to mention, it's free...so you've got that going for you, which is nice.

It smells bad in there. I took one tour group in there, and decided that I wouldn't do that again. I just use the gym at the Reserve when I'm not a gimp, which for some strange reason, this year, has been less often than not. I keep hurting myself.

In addition to Tonken's, a lot of people have memberships at the WAC (WI Athletic Club), but I think it's costly - don't know how much for sure.

Also, there's a YMCA on 124th and North. Never been inside, but there are some students that go there too. From what I understand from a classmate, that if you bring in your financial aid statement, and show that you have to live on like $1000/month you get the poor people's price - like ~$20-25/month.

I have a memebership at the Y. Its a great place to workout. Lots of new cardio machines and the weights arent shabby either. They also have a nice pool/bball court/hot tub /sauna/free lockers and towels. Im not sure how much it cost cause I am still on the family plan with my parents(eventhough they are in atlanta). But they do have discounts for people under 24 and poor folks soo give it a shot.

Sabina? One guy in our class dressed up as him last year for Halloween. It was awesome.

someone dresses up like sabina every year (though i've never heard the office space comparison...usually he's compared to actors of a more explicit variety). there have also been kolesaris, krippendorfs (mrs. dr. krippendorf for those who don't yet know that there's a mr. dr. krippendorf at fmlh), wagners, etc. i figure as long as there are professors there will be students willing to make fun of them... 👍

Oh my goodness, it's the return of Don!!

Twice in one week, how could I possibly be so lucky?

Fate has smiled on you this week, obviously....

Or it's that House is a repeat, and I find myself here on SDN.

How's the gas crowd?

Sleepy... and VA-like. Bleh.

well, there's only one other M1 who was in Schwabby's organic, and I don't think you know her...

Actually, I think I do. She and I had physics lab together. I think. Unless you mean someone else, in which case you're right and I don't.

Thinking is HARD! Let's do biochemistry. 😉

I have access to morphine if you need it. 20+ mg should do the trick.

I'm not sure that would help, but thanks anyway. I think what I need is an alternate universe that runs on a different timeline so I can slip in there and study whenever I feel like this world is running too fast. Can you hook me up with some of that? 🙂

$26.50. Unless you're interested in timeshare.

Anna. her cadaver is 10 feet from yours.

my cadaver is chris farley.

Right. I know her. We had physics lab together and we interviewed on the same day. So is she the super-secret o-chem student you weren't supposed to tell me about? I want MYSTERY, dammit!

So I guess I'll go review biochem, then.

Hey, I need a lot of repetition. I talk fast, but I remember slow.

Me too. I've been studying about 3 hours per day since last Sunday. I hear people talking about how they haven't even opened their books yet! Either they are going to get a rude awakening after the first exam or I AM the guy who was mistakenly admitted.

Also, several months ago I asked if there were any good Mexican resteraunts in Milwaukee. Nobody even bothered to mention that the entire south side of Milwaukee is full of authentic Mexican food.

I have also been studying quite a bit through the first week. I hope it is doing some good.

Indo I noticed that you are from Oregon, I am also from that green state.

The only place I could remember was La Fuente. My friends took me there to celebrate when I was admitted. I don't actually remember it very well. All I can say is that there's a lot more tequila in the margaritas than your taste buds will tell you. Beware!!

I'm studying about 3 hours a day or so. Took a light day last night and am trying to catch up today. Tomorrow it's one more walk-through of biochem with a study buddy and then pre-reading for next week. To be honest, this isn't any more intense than my MCAT studying schedule was, and at least I don't also have a job! On the other hand, we're actually covering topics in Biochem I've had before. It'll be kind of fun when we get to new stuff.

Whee!

Is Biochem the subject everyone is studying the most?
