MCW Class of 2010, Part 3

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes, yes I did... glorified, like the other specialties...

glorified carpenters
glorified plumbers
and maybe even glorified electricians

what would a glorified coffee shop hippie be like?

Im not sure if i would go to an ortho doc who doesnt have a working thumb 😛

I have 2 working thumbs. You can come see me instead. 🙂

BTW, does anyone have the email of the cardiology interest group person? Or can I find 'em on ANGEL?

Yeah [email protected]. I've already contacted him as well, and it sounds like the group should be pretty cool. Can't wait to shadow a cardiothoracic surgeon and see how that side of things is. Oh, and if you get a chance, try to shadow one of the cardiologists in the cath lab. That was probably my favorite experience of M1 year.

I'm definitely going to be a glorified plumber--the two specialties I'm most interested in at this point are interventional cards and gastroenterology (or however you spell that craziness). Think I can get away with wearing scrubs that expose a little crack while I'm doing procedures?

Thanks! This should be sweet.

When are M2 exams?

An ironic note: The cardiology interest group's acronym is CIG. heehee. Get it?

Monday, then the next Monday and Tuesday. The schedule sucks. We even voted to have a block schedule.😡

Big Brother is always looking out for us. You know, except when it comes to disrespecting our time by refusing to start/end lectures on time, freaking out about chairs being out of place in rooms no one uses, and banning food and drink in the lecture hall in which we live half of our lives. Other than that, they're going to bat for US.

Boy, I get awful cynical around exam time. Why do I get the feeling I'm going to be more like Dr. Cox from Scrubs when I get done with this whole "medical education" thing than I would like?

psychiatrist. On that note, is the dream interpretation thing a real part of psychiatry training? If I have a dream about Fire Marshall Bill does that mean I have a fiery subconscious?

Plumber? I was afraid you were about to confess your interest in urology.

by the way, awesome co-op. I heart you.

What's the story behind this?

I'm proud to say that I've completely disregarded the no-eating rule in the lecture hall. I've also spilled my water (accidentally) almost every day...that room sucks.

were you at ethics lecture? we all got bi*ched at for not putting the tables back the way we found them. for those who have ethics small group in the CMUTs. if your group does this 3 times, you'll all lose a point or something. Apparently Gil spends his lunch hour rearranging CMUTs...

I wouldn't worry too much about the no eating thing. Just don't have a complete meal or something.

Andy, did ya'll win your game last night? Any M1s out there on a team? Ashleigh, whose team are you on?

My room better not get put on the bad list again... we were missing a chair to start with.

I'm on Matt Tallar's team... Team America. Amazingly, we won, considering none of the girls on the team had ever played softball before, and I hadn't played catch at all since 2001 or swung a bat since 1996.

yeah, back off the cranks....

ironically, I just had to look up a case report about a sort-of-urology issue for rounds tomorrow.

I'm so glad I took immunology my last semester of undergrad. 😀

Yep, we beat 'em by one point. Our team has good potential this year, if we can get our act together in the outfield.

Hey, any M3/M4s...

Is the Microbiology made Ridiculously Simple book worth getting?

Thanks,
I love you,
My heart is yours,
and yours is mine,
Love,
Always,
Yours forever in my heart together in love wrapped together nude,
--Marc

What are you on now?

The clinical stuff in immuno is still scaring me. I'll make Lange my friend tomorrow.

Medicine, and my first week has been pretty hectic...70 hours or so since Tuesday.

The clinical stuff is all about practice questions, in my opinion. It takes a bit to get used to the vignette format, but once you do, they are pretty much the same as other multiple choice questions. Lange is pretty good tho.

Splat....

I thought the Ridiculously Simple book was good, but not the final word. I only read the bacteria section for micro class, but I read the whole thing studying for boards, and there is useful info in there for virology, fungi, and parasites too. The tables in that book are pretty high yield, though.
A side note on micro, I get pimped with infectious diseases questions all the time by my attendings, so you aren't totally wasting your time

First aid also has a pretty good micro section.

I, as usual, agree with Don on everything... I made my own tables for micro, especially for blocks 2-4 and while it took for-freaking-ever, it was sooo worth it. I learned so much making them and sorting them by different things (toxins, virulence factors, etc). That immuno test kicked my butt though. 🙄

Tables are great for pharm too!

We should create an MCW standardized exam performance rating system. An example system.

"I worked that test"= honors
"It went alright" = high pass
"It kicked my butt"= pass
"I got f'in worked!" = low pass
"future drop out" = fail

the guy from the CleanPower company that comes in that polishes the floors on 2nd floor near the CMUTS in the evenings can't whistle for sh1t. Yet he does not stop.

Well, in that case I think I'm about to get worked tomorrow morning in Micro.

I feel you man...you should try studying in the cafeteria from 4-5pm every day when the Clean Power people come in to eat before their shifts start and tell raucous stories that you can hear clearly across the room. I mean, it's the cafeteria, so I can't really get mad about the noise environment, but goddamn!

so, now it's 2:40 am. Around 11pm I was studying and ready to fall asleep. Around midnight I was studying and ready to fall asleep. Same around 1am. I finally got into bed at 2am. And now I can't f_cking sleep.

every time i tried to tell you, the words just came out wrong.

so i'll have to say i love you

in a song

Did you guys know that I was originally supposed to be in N*sync? It's true! I was removed from the group shortly before they got huge because of "behavioral issues." This of course, was a few years ago, when I was younger...had less hair on my face and more on my head. But those were memorable times, when JC and I would go clubbin' and stuff.

Those sure were the days...here's some original band publicity art before I was asked to leave to avoid any more, as they put it, "irreparable physical and emotional damage to Justin."

Isn't that picture on myspace or something like that? It seems like I've seen it before somewhere.

William Shatner aka Denny Crane has fat fingers.

The thing I like about the tests being broken up is that we don't have path tomorrow. Unlike 2nd semester last year with neuro right after phys. That always sucked.

Oh yeah, and sorry for not noticing you right away Xandie... Totally thinking about micro. I may look like I'm normal with head reflexes and whatnot, but my mind is in test-land. =)

No biggie... Marc's reaction was enough excitement for one day, thanks.

Well, in that case I think I'm about to get worked tomorrow morning in Micro.

I'm revising this statement to "I think it went alright." I was kind of surprised at how easy they were on us...aside from a few random questions from left field, I felt like there were plenty of gimme's.

And yes, I did just quote myself. I'm that cool. 😎

sadly enough I don't even remember what my reaction was.

Screaming "O.M.G. O.M.F.G. It's Xandie. L.O.L."

Clearly the ten hours of sleep I got last night dwarfed whatever pitiful existence you guys are living... sigh... 😛

To quote the great MWillie, who is living in the hornet's nest that I was swinging at like a pinata over in pre-allo, "You obviously have too much time." Because Photoshop is a very difficult task to master.

I think I've had ten hours of sleep in the past two days (avg about 4-5 a night on medicine), but at least I'm not studying for an M2 test👎 !

Oh yeah, and I'm having a blast doing what I'm doing.

Your photoshop thing for MWillie and WashU and all those threads are hilarious.
You shoulda chimed in. It was enough support that a half dozen people quoted the picture and thought it was hilarious, but I would've liked to have seen him go down in flames.
