Syphillis, or false-positive d/t SLE?

I have faith in you Marc. My guesses:

LDL: 150
HDL: 35
HbA1c: 8 ('cause you're just so sweet)

Make sure you're fasted! I've been wanting to get mine tested. I've been eating a lot of Omega-3's lately (pickled herring...yum!)

Uh oh! for the umpteenth time on SDN, I've been warned that I'm going to be a bad doctor! This guy takes the cake though 🙄

seriously, have drugs increased at anywhere near the speed of obesity? I don't think so. None of my research (scroll down in the thread) shows anything like that.

take heart, little buddy. I have faith that you'll be a mediocre doctor. but if you ever need to talk, you know i'm here for you.

Point me at the little bugger! Everyone here knows that I have the market cornered on bad doctoring.

T minus four hours for my psych shelf... I would like to predict the following outcome:

Psych shelf 1, Xandie 0... however, Xandie will be on the East Coast by tonight, so she really could care less. Huzzah for apathy.

I'll give you an A+ for Apathy. That should make you feel better.

I like our string of predictions here. I'll be working concessions at the Packers game tonight and would like to make a prediction: Vikings 24-Packers 13 😀

Oh, and I also predict that I spill the hot chocolate I will be selling on at least 3 Packers fans.

Hopefully it won't be me! I'll be there...my first Packers game at Lambeau ever.

Excellent. Now I have a target. You'll be sitting there, soaking up the atmosphere at Lambeau, watching your beloved Packers receive a mediocre butt-whoopin', when suddenly out of nowhere....NINJA-SCALD!

My prediction: completely confirmed.

Ouch.

Don, we have to get together and trade insights, since we've completed the whole third year between the two of us. Write me an email or something detailing all your smartness, and I'll tell you where to get the good food and how to avoid annoying trackmates. Sound like an even exchange?

Word. I like food.

Enjoy the east coast.

Bad news, Indo...looks like the Class of 2011 thread starter decided to put a bunch of asterixes in the thread title.

damn it.

ooohhhhh getting so close!!!!

ugh. I hate the semi-sleep stage where my dreams start looping in an irritating fashion.

I've been having so many annoying dreams since the semester ended. Usually I have zero dreams that I can remember each night, but I think since my brain has not been getting exhausted every day, it feels like it has free reign to bug me at night.

Case in point: last night I dreamt that I was back taking high school classes in the dorm that I stayed in at the U of MN during my sophomore year. I was also driving around a kiddy-sized Jeep Wrangler and listening to a concert featuring Will Ferrell (who had an outstanding singing voice and mad skillz on the bass guitar). I woke up repeatedly thinking, "This is the lamest dream evar" but could never get out of the dream when I went back to sleep.

I miss those carefree days of my teenage years when my dreams were simple and predictably saucy.

At least you aren't having dreams where you are trying to figure out if you're a chondroblast, or about leukemias.

I've been having a lot of dreams since I've actually been sleeping a lot. Last night I dreamt my wife cheated on me. I was thoroughly convinced it was real until I woke up, at which point I was incredibly relieved.

To continue a discussion from several months ago regarding MCW's anesthesiology program ranking:

here is what it says:

Anesthesiology Research
The Department is nationally and internationally known for research in clinical and basic science. Anesthesiology faculty are primary or subinvestigators in many NIH, VA Merit Review, American Heart, National Science Foundation, American Diabetes Association, and industry grants.

The Department of Anesthesiology currently ranks in the top five within the nation and received $4,535,490 in NIH support from 14 research grants and one training grant. Many new grants are being submitted and the department is anticipating increases in both restricted awards and other extramural funding.

Does that mean it is in the top 5 highest funded Anesthesiology research departments?

NEW DELHI, Aug 19 (Reuters) - An Indian businessman born with two penises wants one of them removed surgically as he wants to marry and lead a normal sexual life, a newspaper report said on Saturday.

The 24-year-old man from the northern state of Uttar Pradesh admitted himself to a New Delhi hospital this week with an extremely rare medical condition called penile duplication or diphallus, the Times of India said.

"Two fully functional penes is unheard of even in medical literature. In the more common form of diphallus, one organ is rudimentary," the newspaper quoted a surgeon as saying.

The surgery was expected to be challenging as both organs were well-formed and full blood supply to the retained penis had to be ensured to allow it to function normally, he added.

The newspaper did not disclose the identity of the man or the hospital to protect the patient's privacy.

There are about 100 such reported cases of diphallus around the world and it is known to occur among one in 5.5 million men, the newspaper said.

It is caused by the failure of the mesodermal bands in the embryo to fuse properly. The mesodermal bands are one of three primary layers of the embryo from which several body parts are formed.

aww, man, why would you get rid of that??

For the record, I would just like to say that Lost is an excellent television series, and I have immensely enjoyed watching 3-4 episodes per day in an effort to catch up to the third season during this break.

I've also discovered that reading philosophy and theology books over the past week is far more intellectually stimulating than anything we've done in med school thus far. Makes me wish I could find myself a toga and a nice cave and sit around all day pontificating to people who come to visit me.

👍 👍 I did the same thing over the summer and part of 1st semester. I'm excited for when it comes back in Feb.

ah, I woke up early today (half an hour ago). I'm so proud of myself. I've pretty much become nocturnal. 😳 I woke up at 3:45pm yesterday, and I went to bed at 4:45am last night/morning.

Fun story:
About to drive an elderly gentlemen with a touch of old age-induced hearing loss to the hospital for a leaky triple A...my partner was running the back on this call while I was driving. Before we left she was getting a blood pressure while I was standing in the back door of the ambulance making sure she was all set. The old guy says "so if there's only two of you and you're both back here, who's going to drive?"

The old guy had demonstrated a sense of humor earlier, so my partner jokingly says "oh, we still have to call a driver."

And he says "you have a colored driver up front? I used to work with some colored people; they drove our delivery trucks." Then he said something else that was a tad less politically correct.

I once got hit on by a hilariously drunk gay dude. He asked if I was gay, so I told him no (it wasn't a Tuesday), then he asked if the driver was gay, so I told him he'd have to ask her, so he did, and she responded with an enthusiastic "YES, I AM." (rainbow sticker and all) His response: "Oh, I love lesbians!" I told him I thought he was a bit confused. 😉

I once had to massage a guy's leg in the ambulance because he was fully immobilized and his muscle started having spasms...

Then the same guy started asking me about my relationship with the Lord and pretty much preaching to me.

I hate the long transfers....

235, but I want the Prowler to win so I can see him get the big mofo hug!

You are either really lucky, really good, or can see into the future.

You win yet another hug.

Chol: 236 (should be <200)
Trig: 115 (should be <150)
HDL: 41 (should be >40)
LDL: 172 (should be <130)

Guess I have a little work to do 🙁

I've only had a few long transfers - I've been to each of the two Chicago VAs, and I've been out to Oconomowoc, but that's about it. We did have one MVA on 894 south that went to Froedtert, and it took 17+ minutes, because there weren't any turnarounds for a while. It was actually the hottest patient I've ever had, but she was very inebriated.

I'm really sorry I won. Lifestyle changes suck!

I concur. I had to leave Maui last night at 6pm, and now I'm in Dallas/Ft Worth Airport. I hate DFW. It's annoying. Now I have a 2.5 hour flight on an american eagle sardine tin.

good thing you like sardines.

Hey guys, I have a question. As an out of state student (currently, for undergrad), what would I have to do to be considered a Wisconsin resident? I'll probably attend MCW regardless, but just curious about this.

Generally, you would have to live in Wisconsin for one FULL year (check with the state to find out if it has to be a calendar year) WITHOUT going to school. This is just a rough guideline.

There's also "The Ceremony," but it involves lots of cheese, some Packers clothing, Miller Lite, and some bloodletting. Some people go that route to get in state tuition.

But I think samenewme is right...probably won't be considered a state resident so long as you go to school here.

Either way, welcome to MCW!

Darn it, I miss all the good rituals! But that's just my way. I lived in Louisiana for many years and never drank coffee and chicory.

You have to live here for a year, establish residency and then apply. If you're accepted as an OOS, you're stuck as an OOS'er. Which is why I'm keeping my HI driver's lisence.

I do NOT like sardines.

okay, I think I'm going to buy BRS Phys, Costanzo's Phys, and Wheater's histology book (total: $157, which is a lot less than undergrad books - usually $350+ each semester), but I'll stop by the bookstore tomorrow to see if they have any of those for less than Amazon, because they'll beat the price for you. Guyton's is $104 at the bookstore, but if I need it, I'll get it off reserve at the library. I shouldn't have bought Moore's and the Devo book. I really only needed my Netter and my Netter flashcards.

Costanzo's Phys

You've chosen wisely. I would go ahead and read Guyton for the cardiovascular stuff though, as Cowley tends to pull minutiae straight out of the reading that was never covered in class. He's the only prof that really does that though.
