MCW Class of 2010, Part 3

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The corrections took me all the way from failing to passing. YAYYYYYYYY!

Life is good.
I think I'm one point shy of changing my standing. I was actually relatively content with my initial score, so 4% more is just gravy. Congrats though 😉

Let us hope that the rest of the exams are not of similar difficulty.

OK folks this thread now has close to 1,000 posts. One of you will need to start a new edition of this thread as I will close the current one at 1,000 posts.

Threads over 1,000 posts cause havoc with the SDN server and thus this move is necessary to prevent crashes. This is just a friendly reminder as you near the 900 mark.

Good thing, too, since this one was really lagging behind the other classes (clearly my class is a lost cause). Come on, M-2s, pick it up.

Three! Three! Three! Three!
Let's sing a song of three!
How many is three?

Has anyone noticed that this Path exam is worth something like 8.5% of our final grade while our TBL sessions are worth 15%?

now now, Xandie, the reason that we're just now starting part 3 is that our first thread was over 4000 posts, and the second is near 900. The class of 2009 has a 2300 post thread and a 1500 post thread. Give us some credit...

Yep. Guess who will be studying a lot more for the next TBL? TBL is worth more than the cumulative final.

Has anyone noticed that the syllabus says that ATTENDANCE is worth 15% of our grade?

YES!!!!! I wish that was true.

I hate to bring it up with her, but I suppose someone should mention it so it's documented in case someone wants to appeal their grade at the end of the semester.

Or perhaps someone should be reviewing the bacteria associated with particular immune deficiencies.

Toodles!

Um, I really really hope that they're not taking attendance....

Attendance AT TBL. There is no mention in the syllabus of any other way of measuring our performance in TBL other than attendance, which is mandatory and is 15% of our grade. Geez, read the syllabus. What are you doing with your time, actually learning pathology instead of putzing with the syllabus and whining about grades? What the heck kind of med student are you?

Stop worrying about path. They're just there to make everyone's lives miserable because they hate students with a potential for a future.

Oh, Door County's being featured on the Weather Channel. I think I want to take a road trip up there this Oct to see the leaves. Anyone up for it?

And why is nearly 900 posts near 1000? Usually they stop us at like 945 or so.

Stop lecturing me. If you were any kind of med student, you wouldn't be surfing SDN right before a path exam!

let's run it up to 999

Didn't you notice last year that we'd have a run on SDN right around path exams? c/o 2009 = great role models. 😉
Part of me wishes I were an M3 right now, and part of me doesn't. I'm studying with another guy, and whenever he asks me an open-ended question, I'm stumped. I can only diagnose a patient if I have a list of four or five possibilities. No options? No diagnosis.

Syphilis will work for just about anything: psych, STDs, CV, CNS...

Or maybe that's just because I'm reading about it right now.

Edit: I'm so glad I'm an M3 and not an M2... though I'd also wish I would've graduated in 4 years and gone straight to med school... then I'd be an intern, but then I'd be responsible for people.

For this exam, everything is lupus.

then I'd be an intern, but then I'd be responsible for people.
And even more tired, but at least you'd be Dr. Ashers. Are you worried that you're going to feel like your dad (Dr. Same-last-name-as-dad)? When one of my friends got married, we all teased his wife. His mom was a teacher at our school, so his wife is Mrs. S, which is hilarious to everyone that knows his mom.

I noticed this. I wanted to go into the basement and ask my neighbors (who are doing laundry) if they have lupus. Because EVERYBODY in the Robbins, Coltran, whatever review book has freaking lupus.

hate to tell you this, 🙁 but the leaves are already ator near their peak in the north woods ...wouldn't surprise me if the leaves in Door County are as well. Can't say for sure, but that's my guess. October might be too late.

if they've got anti-dsDNA antibodies and anti-Sm antigen antibodies, then it's pretty much a lock.

even the musician Seal had lupus as a child, leaving him with his distinct facial scars.

Lupus is the kind of disease you'd wish upon your worst enemy. One of the PhDs I worked with in undergrad had it, she had 2 pairs of clothes she really liked -- 1 for on steroids and 1 for when she was healthy. =(

And, yes, I've always said it will sound weird being called like my dad. Dr. My Last Name is my dad's name. I was just saying that to one of my friends last week I think. I think that was brought up because people were calling him Dr then using his first name, and there's a Dr with the same last name as his frist name at St. Mary's. /end confusing pointless story told at 5am.

Sad. Maybe I'll just drive up there this weekend. Like on Sunday.

for a quick, tasty sammich that is moderately overpriced, i highly recommend The YumYum Tree in Bailey's Harbor.

Door County is the kind of place you set a whole weekend aside for and get reservations at the neatest bed and breakfast you can find.

How could you not eat at a place called The YumYum Tree.

Even the name sounds delicious.

I watched part of a movie on TCM called "Under the Yum Yum Tree" from 1963. It was quite scandalous. Jack Lemmon is a landlord, and he only lets pretty girls move into his apartment complex to um... you know, wink:wink, nudge:nudge. Then a girl moved in with her "roommate" who ended up being her fiance, as a trial before marriage, and he slept on a cot, but Jack Lemmon kept coming into the apartment expecting to see 2 girls. Then I stopped watching cuz it was stupid.

Not to borrow trouble, but how should I study for the written CER exam in December? I'm not going to be able to cover it all the afternoon after Path, am I?

Dangit, my favorite team on Beauty and the Geek got eliminated in the first round.

He was endearingly nerdy, and she was really sweet (in addition to being mad hot, but that's a given)

So I just remembered like half an hour ago that we had a path exam on Monday, and now would be the time to contest the questions. I think I presented a pretty strong case for #1, #5, and #35. Our class genius had quite the post for #35.

But I didn't even MISS #35!

"15% is the set amount for TBLs – no more complaints on this"

Looks like I will be cramming for TBL sessions.

I'm trying not to be childish about the whole thing, but it would be fun to continue to complain and claim academic freedom. Faculty loves academic freedom when they're the ones doing the arguing. But that's self-destructive, foolish, and takes energy away from studying.

Plus even thinking about it makes me peevish, and I hate getting peevish.

I'm not going to work today because I feel like crap 2/2 boards... I also want to eat large quantities of chocolate and mope, does that sound reasonable?
