Know the objectives from each lecture. I don't think anyone really studied for it. I sucked on that test and still honored CER. I really didn't know how CER was going to go though. That was the one grade for which I was way anxious. I guess I wanted to see if pharm wrote comments, but they didn't.

Anyone go to convocation and see who was the top of pharm and path for our class?

There were no student awards announced at this years convocation. They gave some wishy-washy explanation about cutting down the length of the ceremony.

Did anyone mention what the average was for that path exam?

I have an interview at MCW on Friday. I am really excited about it because it is my number one choice. I won't be able to attend the social on Thursday but I am interested in observing a class on Friday morning if possible. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions or if I should just contact the admissions office.

I think there is a microbiology or pathology lecture in the front lecture hall at 9. There will be PLENTY of seating.

I think that's the best bet. There are no M1 lectures really Friday morning. Just a small-group discussion and a review in biochem. Not representative at all.

9-10am, then 10-11am - Pathology - Diseases of Infancy and Childhood I & II
11-noon - Microbiology - Anaerobic Bacteria

Those are the M2 classes, and they're in the HRC auditorium immediately in front of you when you enter through the revolving door to the lobby. If you're going to come, come just a few minutes before the hour, because they usually start right on time. Like they said, there will be plenty of seating, and yes, your suit will give you away as an applicant 😀

I just got notice that my psych grade is finally available. I finished psych over 8 weeks ago.

how many people will honor their rotations compared to the number of people that will honor any given M1/M2 class? Everybody says "Oh, don't worry about your first two years' grades, just do well on your rotations!" but is that kind of like saying "ROCK THE MCAT, SON, AND YOU'LL BE IN GREAT SHAPE!"? Sure, it's a great theory, but most people can't "rock" the MCAT or the average wouldn't be 24.

As far as I can tell, Honors is significantly harder to get in 3rd/4th year than in the first two years. From discussions I've had with a couple of faculty, it sounds like High Passes are handed out like candy on your clinical rotations, which means they don't count for jack when applying to a residency.

Now having the medicine grades just become ready yesterday doesn't seem so bad anymore. That was only 4 weeks ago many, many people evaluating you.

Of course I don't have mine yet. Darn 8-5 registrar hours. I'm hoping I got a high pass. I just don't know what I could do to stand out from everyone else to get the honors. Yeah, I can try to do the best job I can and be enthusiastic, blah, blah, blah, but everyone else is too, esp in our gunner class.

Geez, you have to at least clarify and say "putting your hands on their shoulders for half a second," so it doesn't sound like I was groping women in the cafeteria.

Hmmm...I'm lost on the "because". Because you think that's so gracious and charming?

It reminds me a little of a cat I used to have who never caught on that it was not fun and charming to greet other cats by biting them on the butt. He was always surprised when they hissed at him.

Because.....all sorts of lurid and lascivious reasons that are inappropriate to share on this forum.
 
The average on our path exam is a 91%. The low score was only a 74%. Methinks that was better than last year's fiasco.


And all the questions I got wrong were ones where the correct answer was D. This is not the first time this has happened either...

Whats really annoying is when the comments on the evals are really good...but the actual grade...average. Or when in the comments it says "good clinical skills" but they bubble in the box for "not observed" under "technical skills". Maybe i should try to get bad comments and hope they give me a good grade...or maybe it was opposite day ..who knows

fyi, technical skills does not necessarily equate clinical skills. There's a separate checkbox for physical examination which I would consider clinical skills. I think "technical" means IVs, drawing blood, ABGs, etc.

Sorry you didn't get the grade you wanted Pratik. I'm sure you did an awesome job.

Do any other rotations cap the amount of people that can get honors? I know medicine caps at 40% of students on the rotation. Although, they don't actually say how many people got what.
 
oh, man, Blue Moon tastes so good right now....I think I just drank five of them in an hour....

True. If you can suture like the wind, you've got skillz.

Clinical skills would be like developing rapport, and asking focused, logical questions related to the chief complaint.
 
yanked out a central line today. wasn't exactly hard or rocket science, in fact it was easier than putting on my pants in the morning, but still, it was fun. I'm SO acing the technical skills thing. next week I'm shooting for something as advanced as helping the patient reach their TV remote.
