Mcw Class Of 2011 Awesome Part 3!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
well, i tried my hardest to make it good for you guys! glad to be of service.

You sure lost weight since then, Dr. O'Connor.

I was thinking of how we suffered in PBL together. Then your lovely interviewing preceptor and was it MIM too? I had her good friend (and I think the current MIM course director) for interviewing.

any family medicine doctor that has the balls to insult EMS workers, when 3 of the 6 people in her group were EMTs or paramedics, is all right by me. and by "all right" i mean "not all right."

what did the doc say?

"you know, i've always gotten the impression that EMTs treat their patients like babies."

?????????????????????????????????

maybe it's because we get them all bundled up papoose-like before we transport.

Wow, that doc apparently has missed out on a number of patient encounters I've had.

Did she mean EMT's-turned doctors, or EMT's in their capacity as emergency medical personnel treat their patients like babies?

Here's possibly the worst question of the thread, but here it goes anyway. For all of you M3s/M4s who have done your EM rotations, what did you wear in the ER? Here's why I'm freaked out--a more senior student (M2) told me that only the physicians wear navy blue scrubs. I only have navy blue scrubs and I don't want them to be like, "You M1 dick; you're not a doctor" if I wear them to my 1st mentor visit. Ahhh--the paranoia!!

if you're wearing your short white coat you'll stick out like a sore thumb no matter what color scrub you're wearing, so I wouldn't fret too much.

actually when I rotated through the ER at children's in July, I wore khakis and a polo or button down shirt at first, but then quickly degraded to scrubs pants and a t-shirt. With the white coat, of course.

best bet is to always ask your mentor, though. shoot him/her an email and ask. most EM doctors are laid back enough that they hopefully won't give too much of a crap what you wear. at least at children's, most of the attendings still wear business casual while the students and residents wear scrubs.

If you're in Froedtert's ER with Dr. Cady, check out his class picture from '96. Pretty funny stuff. He looks like he's going "Huh??"

Standard issue Froedtert seafoam green (mostly), with some St. Mary's blue thrown in for variety.

i know someone that has slowly accumulated several pairs of surgery scrubs from a nearby hospital.....

but he will return them....eventually

I know someone who paid good money for the only scrubs they own because this is America dammit and there are no free lunches.

...and you are....?

(there are free lunches at St. Joe's every weekday, FYI).

I paid for lots of scrubs before... probably about 15 pair when I was working as a vampire.

Froedtert scrubs are annoying. The pants are too short, and I can mix and match sizes.

Handy tip from one of the surgeons at St. Joe's:

"When God asks you what disease you want, DON'T say you want diabetes."

Also don't say GBM or anaplastic thyroid cancer.

Me? I'd take a tapeworm and hyperthyroidism. At the same time. Yep.

i'll take any disease that makes the voices go away......

just make them go away........

How bad is the ethics exam?

Or perhaps I should laugh at Funk for posting at 4:29 AM.

Good Grief.

The only thing that REALLY annoyed me about the ethics exam is the question asking me distinguish among 4 essays from On Doctoring, giving titles and a synopsis, and tell me which one wasn't really right. I read the damn book during orientation week, and being able to distinguish which one had the right one-sentence summary is unlikely to to affect my future ethical practice. It's like those lit exams in high school where they want to know whether Huck met the Duke on Tuesday or Wednesday, not because it's relevant, but to see if you memorized the chapter sufficiently.

Way to irritate me.

I think that Frank was treatable, not curable. Why would I tell him that the pancreatic cancer will be the cause of his death if I don't know that it will be? He could get hit by a truck tomorrow.

But you have to say in the fantasy world of the question, and the question said to 'tend like he was gonna die.

I had nothing to say at 330 this morning, otherwise I would've posted then. However, at 429, I was nearly at school.

Time for dinner, brief studying, then bed by 730 or 8.

Can anybody recommend a good vet around here? I need to take my cat in, but I don't know about any of them in the area. Thanks!

I love the St Paul Vet Clinic on 27th Street. I have taken my cat and dog there for several years after having really bad experiences with a couple of other vets. The vets at St Paul are really nice and the services are reasonable priced. Plus, they have all walk-in appointments and are open until 9 pm during the week so it is really convenient for going around classes.

in about an hour I will have been up for 24 hours thanks to the 7 hour surgery i just finished. yay.

hopefully someone on surgery takes notes for me as I sure as hell am not going to lecture from 9-5 today.

There's the Wauwatosa Vet Clinic on 76th st or Wauwatosa, north of North. The people are really nice there. I took my cat there when she lived here with me before I decided that throwing up on my bed every night was too much, and she could go back home to my parents.

I recommend Crawford Animal Hospital on Hwy 100 and Layton. My wife works there as their technical staff supervisor and has nothing but good things to say about their medical practices. They tend to be a teeny bit more expensive than some other vets in the area, but they also tend to have fewer bad outcomes than some other clinics that cut corners to keep prices down. They have a website at http://www.myanimalhospital.com/ that you can check out. My personal rec (and the doc we take our cats to) would be Dr. Gorr.

I also go to the Wauwatosa Vet clinic on 76th Street and have really liked them. And my dog likes going there too!

www.wauwatosavet.com

They even sent me a $15 Starbucks card when one of my other friends started going there.

That reminds me, my dog is due for her check-up.

i should really get the turtle in for his yearly exam too. man how time flies.

any suggestions on how to study for the anatomy final and for the MIM midterm?

thanks!
