And I'm eating Noodles & Co. right now, so I recommend that for supper. Penne rosa w/ shrimp. Yum yum!

Important news update: I actually ended up eating at my old stand-by, Chili's. Nothing like a burger and buffalo wings to make you forget just how boring cerebral hemorrhages are.

So when I was at church tonight, the pastor announced that he was wearing crappy jeans because some kid had died today from slipping in the shower at his college and ended up having trauma to the head. I started postulating what it might be that caused him to die. Poor family.

That's a sad story. Why exactly was the pastor wearing jeans, though? Was he off giving spiritual guidance to the family right before church?

Oh, guess I wasn't paying much attention to what I didn't say.

Yeah, he ran over to the family's house, and came straight to the church from there. He even said he didn't even have time to go home and get his sermon notes.

I kinda wish he had said what happened. He's a retired emergency room doc, so a lot of his sermons have medical analogies.

If ya keep eating like that ...you are gonna have cerebral hemorrhage secondary to an infarct

Where the hell is Splat...off studying, or something? What a slacker. Here we are advancing the MCW threads to greatness and doing all the work without him.

sorry for the absence. I was getting ready to make sure that you all pay.

Oh, I'm gonna pay all right...don't you worry about that.

i forgot to mention that the other day I was in the bookstore hanging with my ladies, and 2 young female pathology course directors were looking at various books making comments about things for our class. I hung around and spied for awhile by "looking at other books" that happened to be nearby, but can't really spread around the things I heard them coming up with from what they were reading. that would be unprofessional.

C'mon...spill it! (At least by PM? 😀 )

I bet they were looking at pathology photographs of infected penises and snickering with each other about them.

you know that stuff is too gross for them.

I approve of Noodles wholeheartedly. And I would complain that Ashleigh didn't give me any cookies, but she did give me a Nestle Crunch with caramel, so complaining would be unprofessional.

If I ever have cookies and you're around I'll give you some.

Thanks! I make tasty cookies too... if I ever have money and can afford groceries again, I'll bring some by.

Oh, and there is a classmate of mine who's wife thinks that I am trying to sleep with him. Mind you, she thought this BEFORE my husband and I split up. So not only am I a slut who breaks up other people's relationships, but I'm also an adultress. So see, you're practically a nun compared to me!

This may take coordination, and me announcing when I make cookies. I do still have a lot left. My friend who usually eats them (my friend's roommate) is on a rotation in Africa.

I always find it hilarious to think of med student wives accusing their husbands of wanting to cheat. Like med school isn't hard enough as it is, of course all of us married men want to complicate things by having a mistress (from our own class, no less!) to worry about. Sheesh.

That and the awesome effect constant stress/boredom has on your libido, and we're talking a recipe for extramarital affairs everywhere!

Word...and double-word.

My wife is more worried about the nurses, but I think one look at the typical Froedtert or VA nurse would quash those fears. **shudder**

Don't tell Prowler that. 😉

Maybe that's the reason my wife is talking about going back to nursing school. Hmmm...

Hi everyone!! I'm so happy I get to post here since I got accepted and all. I'm debating between this school and a school in NY. MCW is great. I really like the facilities, the students seem really happy, and it has a great reputation. The only drawback I've seen when I visited is the need for a car, the need to find housing on my own, and the fact that it's in Milwaukee. I'm not trying to put the school down because I still don't know too much about it, but how do you guys like living there? Do you really need a car? Is it easy to find housing and roommates? I'm from California, that's why I'm asking all these questions that may not apply to a lot of other ppl. Thanks.

Congratulations on the acceptance. There was a discussion about much of this on page 7 of this thread.

Question for all of you with MCW-provided health insurance: How much are you guys paying for it? The company Mrs. Gimlet works for just reduced the percentage they'll pay for our crappy health insurance based out of Madison (which has no providers in the Milwaukee area). I think we'll probably still be paying less than what we would pay for the Humana insurance, but if it isn't that big of a difference I'd rather pay a little more to be able to see a doctor that isn't a 45 minute drive away.

Funk and Prowler, are you guys on your wives' insurance, or the schools? If the schools, I'd especially be interested to know the price for married couples.

I'm on the school's insurance and the wife is on her own personal policy since her work's insurance program is essentially worthless and would cost her over $300/month to join. If I recall correctly when I was looking into our insurance options it essentially works out that you have to pay double the student price just for your wife to get on the school's insurance. So I'm paying "x" right now (not sure exactly how much it is, but it's more than my wife is paying/month) and to have both of us covered by the school it would cost something like 3x.

I've learned Wisconsin sucks for medical insurance. I've heard explanations that range from "Aurora=Satan" to "no laws against insurance companies raking us over the coals." Either way, I am in no way pleased with the situation.

When should I hear about financial aid packages? Especially scholarships and the like.

If I recall correctly they send out a big package of information around May or so (feel free to correct me M1s) that should probably have some info on financial aid. Right now you should just make sure you complete the FAFSA and list the schools you are accepted to as eligible to receive the info.

Feel free to contact the admissions office or financial aid office with any questions you have. They are really nice folks and always seem happy to help. Congrats on the acceptance and good luck making your final choice!

Wow... to get to anything useful on that page, you have to go through a lot of scary stuff.

99% of what is posted on these MCW threads is terrifying.

I have the HMO, and I pay somewhere around $2100/year. I think the PPO was like $2400ish. The deductable plan was like $1700ish.

With the HMO and PPO basically I only have to pay $10 copay and everything is taken care of. Can't remember how big the deductable was for that plan.

Before school I had Blue Cross Blue Shield. Paid $44/month, but it was a $2500 deductible PPO, so I NEVER went to the doctor and I qualified for the state-funded program to go to the reproductive public health for other stuff. Even when my feet swelled up to twice their normal size and I couldn't wear shoes, I still didn't go to the doctor. Unfortunately, I went for my pre-med school physical on the old insurance. So expensive.

Now since I only have to pay $10, and the insurance is mandatory, I'll go to the doctor much more easily. (Though, if we didn't have to have the school's plan, I probably wouldn't, and go back to draining from the state.)

Hey, this kid was on the news just a few minutes ago. Apparently he is on the swim team at a college in Ohio, so it sounds like he slipped in one of those big university showers. So sad. He's actually on life support right now; the family's looking into organ donation. 🙁

Oh, they didn't say the life support stuff. I heard his 5 siblings headed out to OH today; his parents went yesterday.

Those big showers are dangerous. =(

She works at St. Luke's, so bash away on the Froedtert nurses. Although methinks you haven't met all of them, because I do know one Froedtert nurse that went to my HS that never failed to turn our 15-year old heads.

my wife's work insurance. I think the premium is $200 a month. I think my parents' is about ten times that much.

Although to be honest with our female colleagues, at age 15 it doesn't take a whole lot to turn a freshly postpubescent boy's head.

I dunno about that. Guys that age are surrounded by women who have naturally skinny thighs and very perky breasts. Those women, of course, are called 16 and 17 year olds...

I think it's the older guys who are much less discriminating.

I've heard that most people at MCW are either married or in serious relationships. Is this true?

we do have a good number of married folk. however, this may be partially due to a large number of Mormon students at our school, most of which are married. I'm not 100% sure if that makes a huge difference at MCW compared to other schools or not.

Personally I'm in a serious relationship but I'm open to finding a new Mr. Right. (Funk?)

Definitely not most. A good chunk, though. There are plenty of single people or coupled-up people to hang around with, depending on the scene you're into.

Well, in the psych survey, only ~30% of the M2 class said they were single, and 15% were "dating." The remaining 55% were in a serious relationship/engaged/married.

I would consider that most. There have also been people who have started dating since the beginning of the year, not sure of break up rates.

Huh, well I guess I retract my previous statement, then. Either way, it isn't so skewed toward coupled-up people to make it an inhospitable environment for singles, at least from my vantage point.

That's because you're married. 😉 This is the first time in my life where just about all of my friends are in some sort of relationship.

(Do I really care? No.)

I can't imagine it makes a huge difference in life, other than us married folk get away with not having to do our own laundry once in awhile.

Incoming students, please don't worry about the makeup of the class as far as single/unsingle is. It changes greatly year to year (there really is no "are you single?" section on the AMCAS for them to use it as an admissions screen) and you're really not going to have the time to relive every episode of Sex and the City even if every other person in your class is single.

you're just saying that cause you don't want people copying you.

Is it my fault I want to star in the male version of Gray's Anatomy?

I'm thinking of naming it Funk's Phallu...er, I mean Funk's Physiology (Featuring Sex).

Oops...the censors have already nixed my idea for a title. They prefer to stay away from the overt mention of sex, because Americans don't like the word. Guess we're going to go with Funk's Physiology (Featuring Fornication). Hope you didn't print up any t-shirts yet or start the wiki site.

Edit: No, but seriously. Maybe it's just the lack of sleep and caffeine talking here, but I think this sounds like the youtube series we've been waiting for. You bring the camera, and I'll start working on the pilot script...

you make me sick. i'm ashamed to have a crush on you.

Who's going to be the chick version of McDreamy? Or is it just going to be Splat chasing after Funk. 😉 Which would be slightly scary.
