I got this from MCW today. Did anyone else get that? Any happy ending precedents?

"The committee has completed its review of your application. It has been favorably reviewed and moved to a smaller pool of applicants who potentially will be invited to interview with us. That pool is still much larger then our interview schedule can accommodate. So, candidates are selected to receive an invitation by strength of credentials and completion date of application. If and when we get to your application in this process we will be happy to email you an invitation."
 
Do a search. There are one or two other recent threads out there about this. I got that message too - but no invite yet. I believe some others got that message and subsequently already got an invite.
 
That's not a hold. Calm down- it says "favorably reviewed"- that's a good thing. It just means that they liked you application but they liked too many applications and will have to further weed people out before they start hand out interview invites. I got the same email and like 5 days later got an invite.
 
I love the cryptic statuses such as favorably reviewed but still on hold.

Why cant they just say

"your app was decent but not great, we're going to think about it and see if anything better comes along, but will let you know"

kinda similar to a guy saying to a girl

"you're kinda cute but im going to take my chances with that hotter girl over there- if she rejects me than yes ill reconsider you"

I really didn't get that impression from this email. I think they know how much we freak out and want to know what's going on with our application, so although they are unable to definitely offer the applicant an interview, it's kind of like a reassurance that Adcom likes him/her. I think that it's considerate to send updates like this- at least you know that you're making some progress. And it's not a hold.
 
I received the same email about a week ago. I still haven't been invited for an interview but about forty students from my school have (I am not exagerating). Looking over past acceptances from my school at MCW, a lot of them came later in the process (ie January, February). I think that you and I may just be in that lot.
 
for those who received above message, how long did it take to receive the message after you were complete?
 
I just got off the phone with MCW. She told me they have already received over 4000 applications and I don't know what you guys have done but I haven't had anything happen with my application yet. I was verified by AMCAS the first day they sent out verifications and had my MCW application verified in mid July. Mind you it is my top choice and worked with a professor from there and my dad graduated from there so I do not know what you guys are doing to get your applications viewed, but keep it up (yes my stats in school and out are avg. for matriculation).
P.S. I think everyone and there brother+sister are applying to more and more schools hence, the long wait time. There should a cap that an applicant cannot apply to more than 7 schools or something. I see some of these MD profiles, people are applying to like 30 schools which is pretty desprate to me, but I guess I may be the one calling you Dr. sooner than I am one. 😱

I got it with the first wave of people sometime in August. I was complete in July.
 
I wonder if they already have a "rejected applicant pile" with letters ready to be mailed later.
 
I got this e-mail in august as well. A few weeks ago I got invited to interview, and I'll be there on 10/19

So I guess the moral of the story is that this isnt a kiss of death, and is basically exactly what they say it is.

I received the update on 8/24 and received an interview invite today (10/2). I heard that MCW's adcom meets at the end of the month to make acceptance/interview decisions.

there has not been an update for my status...that means I wouldn't hear from them until Nov..hmm.. i guess i could stop checking the status until then..

Don't bother checking your status. My status still says "application complete" even though I've been invited for an interview.
 
Did anyone come off of this hold recently?
 
did anyone receive an invite without being put in this pool first??
 
Ok, does anybody actually get rejected without receiving this message?
 
Some ppl got rejected last year w/o the message.

They only send out interview invites at the end/beginning of the month because the adcom meets at the end of the month. I believe the invite I got (10/2) was the most recent set of invites.
 
So I just called admissions, it has been 3 months and I had heard nothing. I spoke with the Ad. Dean and he said my application was being moved to this smaller, but still large, pool. He then said, criteria for getting an interview from this pool are.
A. Creditentials (So.. AMCAS info)
B. Time of application verification... I found this was interesting, so now I am just curious when some of you had your application verified by MCW?

It would be nice to hear from both people who have been removed from hold and interviewed and those who are still on hold. I have been complete since 7/19... anyone else around there or have most of you already heard?

I was complete 7/20, received the notice about being in the smaller pool on 8/24, and received an invite 10/2. I'm in state, but my WRDF is still being processed by HEAB so I'm considered by MCW as OOS until they receive the form (which should be before my interview 11/16).
 
completed 7/23, still in the large pool and looking forward to get out of the water!
 
This got me thinking...so I went back to my inbox to find that I got that "favorably reviewed" message on 8/24. I was complete on 7/27.

I guess it's the credentials thing that is holding me up because my numbers aren't that great. (no interview yet)
 
so I just called the admissions office checking up on the status of my application. the lady said i would hear something by the end of next week. i'm assuming its a rejection since I've been complete since the end of june/beginning of july.

So what are the criteria for getting into this pool in the first place? I mean, if it is the credentials that get you an interview, then what got us into this pool to begin with?

It seems like most people go into the pool before they get interviews, with a few exceptions.

did you receive notification that you were placed in the interview pool??
 
it sounds like they're warning people that their review process might take longer than other schools, even if they like your file first time around. Being a a school that can only offer one interview spot for ever 11 out of state applicant, i frankly don't blame them for being extra careful.
 
I just called and was told that I should expect to hear something in 4-6 weeks.

nope no hold notification about being into a pool. i've been complete for 3 months and haven't received a single message from them.
 
When I called I spoke with Mike Itswan, the Admissions Dean. He is extremely helpful so if you have been complete for awhile (since july) then I suggest asking to speak with him. Now, initially I spoke with someone who works in the office who told me I should have received the "Hold" email and I informed her I hadn't. THen, when I spoke with Mr Itswan he said, yes, you have been placed in a smaller pool but we (MCW) haven't sent out the emails yet. This was on Wednesday. It is Friday and still no email, so perhaps there will be a mass emailing next week and those on hold will be offered interviews and those not on hold will hopefully be placed on hold, or straight to an interview. Good Luck
 
for those that were recently rejected from mcw did you ever get the "hold" email?
 
Any updates on the hold homefront? I was told I was in this grouping over a week ago yet still no email, perhaps they are being nice and just sending me an interview invite though. A man can only dream.
 
The admission committee met lt wek to discuss application and send new invites. Has anyone been notified of anything?

I haven't. I've been on hold since early October.
 
I was told I was on hold. Never got the email. Today I was joyed to see this,
"On behalf of the Admissions Committee it is my pleasure to extend an invitation for you to interview for a place in the entering class of 2008 at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Attached is important information regarding the interviewing schedule and your visit. It is our hope that this visit will provide an opportunity not only for us to get to know you better but also for you to become more familiar with the Medical College, its facilities, programs, student body and staff."
I was offered to interview on the 7th of Dec. or 11th of Jan, I called and am interviewing on the 16th of November.
 
Congrats! I am interviewing on the 16th as well.

Thanks drizz, im looking forward to it, MCW is beautiful and the fact that it is purely Med Students is really appealing. Really off topic, have you heard back from UW yet?

Not yet, I'm hoping to hear from UW by T-giving. They said 4-6 weeks from Oct 5. I should hear from Case by tomorrow though! 😱

I don't know if anyone has but they told us that at this point in the game there are doing all three, accept, waitlist, and reject. They said it was possible for all the people in our interview group to still get acceptaed and they don't do it as a percentage of interviews that day.. In addition, they said last year the waitlist didn't move at all.. just an FYI
