hey
anybody here declining their interview coming up at MCW....i really want to go to that school but unfortunately due to applying late...the committee agreed to giving me an interview but tehy don't have a spot for me....even for the alternate list..so please let me know if any of you are planning on declining your interviews there any time and i can hopefully try and get in even for the waitlist spot(since that is all they are interviewing for now)...
thanx
cheers

I just recieved the invite a few days ago and havent scheduled anything yet. Just so you know they're only interviewing for waitlist.

Most likely I'll be declining the interview.

What did they say to you?

Edit:

I just declined my interview at MCW today (3/12), so there is at least one spot opened.

I hope you get my spot.

Best,
Lochmoor

no intention to insult in any way, but i know quite a few friends, me included, who applied (and got accepted) to MCW as a backup..my premed counselor touted MCW as a popular back-up school for qualified CA applicants...i'll be cancelling my acceptance soon, just waiting to make sure i didnt get anything phenomenal from the financial aid packet (which i doubt since they told us they offer few to none scholarships)...it was a great school, but aside from many other reasons, i just dont want to live in wisconsin...so i would say if you REALLY want to go, you should...i'd bet money that there will be quite a bit of movement on the waitlist after may 15th

Oh please like OSU isn't used as a back up school for most candidates. Who are you to judge that MCW is a back up school? Just because someone arrogant like yourself got in doesn't mean its a bad school, it only means it has a large class of about 204 students and they have room to accept people like yourself. My god some of you people on SDN really have the nerve to judge. It is arrogant doctors like yourself who aren't even doctoirs yet that make the most mistakes in healthcare. A top 50 school being called a back up my god you really have the nerve

I never said OSU wasn't a back up school...it's not like i'm touting it as harvard or anything...I never mentioned the quality of OSU in my reply, actually. I'm just saying I know alot of friends who applied to that school in the possibility they couldn't get into a CA or NY school, and probably won't go. Which means more waitlist movement, and hopefully a spot available for ralhtar.

And like I said, I was never defaming the school (I even specifically said it was a great school). Many of my CA friends, myself included, don't want to be anywhere close to Wisconsin, no matter the quality of the school, for many reasons...it's just too damn cold for one, second it's hard coming from a big city to a place like Milwaukee, third it's low on diversity. I'm not speaking for everyone on this forum, I am only saying that I know quite a few people who will be withdrawing. I didn't mean 'back-up school' negatively, but I can see how you can take it that way. Based on the criteria I listed above, I'm sure it's by no mean's a back-up school for people living in, say, Michigan.

No need to judge what kind of doctor I will become in the future...Calm down.

Agreed. I was accepted at MCW and I loved the school. Despite the ranking I would have chosen it over more prominant schools, like Umich. and WashU (both of which waitlisted me). They have the nicest facilities I've seen so far. I chose UVa (the other school that accepted me) because I love VA and my wife has family there, but it was a tough choice.

all you had to say is that you and some of your friends got into MCW and will be declining the spot thus freeing up the waitlist.....adding all this stuff about it being a back-up school and your counselor in Cali is totally irrelevant....do you really think anyone here cares about what your counselor thinks??? You're post was insulting...but also comedic.

Thank You Lochmoor for your reply....i hope i get your spot as well...even though i know its for the waitlist...and also i posted this post only because i do consider MCW to be a great school ...i understand for some people it is only a "back up" due to several valid reasons which i understand but i still don't think we need to get so hostile on SDN...we're all here to just help each other out....and for those of you that helped me...
thank you...i appreciate your help.

i would just like to comment that milwaukee and columbus, ohio are not that different in weather (both are cold in winter), size (700k vs 600k), nor diversity (milwaukee actually has more minorities).

I received 3 acceptances, and decided on MCW. I loved the facilities and people there. I am from Los Angeles, and yes, the weather will be the biggest adjustment, but well worth it for such a good school. The UC's in Cali were so cold ,people wise, vs. MCW.

Sadly, I observed a very similar contrast. Albeit a small contrast, it is a contrast (+ tuition hike) that none the less is causing me to consider out of state schools.

I never compared milwaukee to columbus. I was comparing milwaukee to CA (particularly northern, san francisco, san jose, etc.) Much more diverse, much warmer. And the day Milwaukee gets an Urban Outfitters, it'll be a much nicer place. hell yeah, i'm shallow 😀

And like other people were pointing out, MCW is awesome in terms of friendliness. Everyone is so warm, camaraderie is very evident between the classmates. It was a huge selling point.
