MD/DDS programs

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't know, I think that program looks pretty sweet though. I would like more info on it though if you find anything!

yes, you must take the MCAT also...

i don't get it though..

want to be a dentist? go to dental school
want to be a physician? go to med school

it just doesn't make sense to me to offer a combined DDS/MD program 😕

jb!🙂

It specifically states it right on their website; haven't you looked under admissions requirements yet?😕

Being the nice guy that I am, I'll indulge you; they require the MCAT, and the DAT is optional. From the site:

"
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Entrance requirements for this program include the same preprofessional course of study currently followed for entrance into Schools of Dental Medicine and Medicine at Case. A manual dexterity evaluation will be held. The MCAT is required while the DAT is optional. The MCAT should be completed no later than August 1st of the year in which you are applying."

I see you took the DAT, which is good; this program is, from what I've head, more competitive than either program is individually. Having good scores on both the MCAT and the DAT is probably the norm for most kids that even bother applying. I'll assume you haven't taken the MCAT, so I'd advise you to sign up for it ASAP ( or is it too late?) since you need to take it before this month ends.

*EDIT - Looks like Dr. Bauer beat me to it.

how long does it take to finish? i hope its not 4+4 and then residency, but i cant see it being less than 6 years

A remember reading somewhere it's a 5 year program.

Doesn't seem that hard to fit into 5 years. There is lots of overlap. I'd just hate to study for the USMLE and Dental...

Alot of a med students time during clerkships is meant to develop patient interaction skills....something that also happens in the dental clinic. They dont go on their CVS rotation coming out surgeons....they know just enough to say yes/no on the specialty. If this truely is an OMFS shortcut, there isn't much need for exposure to some specialties (unless it's some sort of licensing requirement that you must rotate through xxxxxxxx specialties)

But seems like an odd program. In a few years there will be some graduates to tell the true story.
