Most do oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Is this a profitable Medical or Dental specialty? Can it be a precursor with aesthetic facial surgery

They do ok. I think average oral surgeons make around $350k/yr. There are a bunch of guys on in the Dental Residency forum that know way more about the subject.

it's crazy to get both degrees. the only reason i could see is a dentist that wants to enlarge his/her ability to do ent/maxfacial work.

who does this benefit more a dentist or a surgeon?

i would think a dentist-an ent could always expand him'herself into max/fac with training-a dentist couldn't do ent.

Well, from my understanding, omfs can just about do anything that an ent does, especially with additional training in facial pastic surgery.
