If I were you I would research osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) the single thing that really seperates the DO training from the MD. I would also look at the admission records of both allopathic and osteopathic, much of the debate comes from insecure pre-allos bashing the lower MCAT and GPAs of osteopathic schools, and then the pre-osteos bashing MD for not focusing on the "whole" patient or that numbers can never indicate how good of a doc you will be. Once you leave the playground and don't have enough time to worry about it, the degrees are equal and no one really cares as long as you are competent.
A good controversy I think that would be worth looking into is the rapid expansion of osteopathic schools, I do tend to think that the osteopathic version of the LCME is a bit lax when it comes to accrediting new schools and doesn't have the strictest of standards which is allowing for the rapid proliferation of DO schools, much I think to the eventual detriment of the established and highly regarded osteopathic schools like DMU, PCOM etc. Even so there are also plans for a few new allo schools so it might be interesting to research each school of thoughts plans on expansion to meet the expected shortage of docs.
