the dilemma: i was rejected post-secondary from harvard mstp, but invited to interview for new pathways md. im delighted for the invite, but i also dont know how i could reach my goals without a phd in my field of interest and i think that applying to mstp later in an md program is risky if you know from the start that you want mstp. can i petition for mstp reconsideration? what would i say in a letter? and is there hope? thanks!

you could always do the phd once you've gotten in. most schools don't mind if you stay around for an advanced degree.

also there might be a chance someone at harvard would drop out of the md/phd program so you might be able to pick up a slot.

the application for mstp funding @ harvard is different from most schools. you must have matriculated at the med school, done 2 years of it, joined a phd program (finding a funding source for yourself) and be on your way to thesis defence before you can apply for mstp funding for the last 2 years of medical school. essentially, you are only eligible for the last two years of mstp funding, and have to risk not getting even that. but people do it ...
