How do you present the MD/MBA in residency applications or interviews especially when applying to surgical sub-specialties like Ortho? Do you highlight or minimize?

Some programs might think you are a "flight" risk.

Please be specific.

Thanks

I don't think they will look at you as a risk...

all you have to say that you wanted to understand the financial and economical implications of today's competitive and cost effect oriented medicine...since it is something that is affecting the entire field. And maybe this maybe helpful when you get to have your own practice...

I think it is a plus....

Presumably you got an MD/MBA for a decent reason. Presenting that reason should be good enough. It wouldn't even occur to me to consider whether you were a "flight risk" unless you tipped me that way with something on your CV or in your interview (e.g. you started a company that still only has 2 employees, I might ask you what becomes of the company after you leave, and hopefully you have an answer for that)

As far as highlight v. minimize, I think it depends on the story you can tell around it. If you want to break out to be an i-banker, but ortho is a back-up choice, by all means minimize. If the MBA somehow supports your goals in ortho, then highlight how and why.
