Anyone here considering getting both degrees? Also, does anyone know how residency directors views applicants that have an MBA as well? I've heard that some have a problem with it because they think you're ultimate goal is to land a cushy administration position instead of practice medicine. Any thoughts appreciated.

i've had the same set of questions.
no one seems to know much about it at all.

Texas Tech has a program that allows you to get both MD and MBA degrees in only 4 (yes, four) years. <a href="http://www.ttuhsc.edu/pages/medicine/brochures/mdmba.htm" target="_blank">Here's the link</a>

MD/MBA is my favorite route right now. After speaking with a couple program directors, I've heard that most residency programs will look positively on it if you can explain your reason for getting both degrees and why you want to do a residency. Most MD/MBAs certainly don't have to do residencies -- they have plenty of other career options -- so those that do apply to residencies are doing it because they're truly interested in working in patient care.

Almost impossible to get in unless you're a Texas resident. Actually all the Texas schools are like that except for Baylor, which still takes like 80% Texas residents. Anyway, I think if you're gonna get the MBA and wanna go into the corporate arena one day, you should get it from a top school, not Texas Tech. Not to knock the school, but name recognition is VERY important in the corporate world. Much moreso than in the medical field. A physician's future salary is independent of where he goes to medical school. The same cannot be said for those just getting their MBA's. If you just want the MBA to make your practice run smoother , then go wherever, it doesn't matter, otherwise stick to the top schools.
