IF you are intested in doing an MD/MBA would you rather do the accelerated joint degree (5 years) at your original med school, or go somewhere else for a two-year more prestige MBA program (6 years)?

I'm trying to figure out if I should stick with Mt. Sinai and its Zicklin Business School (not so prestigous MBA) or not. Thanks for the input!

Because most MBA programs in the REAL world expect you to have worked quite a bit (in fact most require it before even applying) and the programs themselves are a dime a dozen, wait a while before getting your MBA, and get it from a decent school.

EDIT: I forgot that the school you went to for your MBA only matters if you plan on using it as your part of your PRIMARY career. If you are getting an MBA, I don't think many places will care where you got it from, because a person who graduated with an MBA from a top school won't be going after the same job as an MD/MBA grad. And if you two ARE going after the same jobs, then your MBA was a waste anyway!

In other words, get your MBA while you get your MD. Where you get it from doesn't matter in the medicine part of the business world. And if it DID matter that much, then your MD is no good!

unlike the MD. the MBA is one of those degrees where the school that you receive it from, has a huge HUGE impact on what you can do. For instance, big consulting firms like Mkinsley ONLY want students who get their MBA from top programs, i.e. the ivy league or other big programs like kellog or stanford, and place less emphasis on the medical school they went to..just go to their websites, and look at where they did thier mba. Though you may find a few success stories out there, when it comes to MBA, its all about the name of the program, because MBA programs are not as uniform in education as medical schools are. and even if they are, big companies will still only recruit from top programs. in a perfect world, everyone has an equal opportunity, but in the buisness/MBA world, this is not the case. Of course, none of this matters if you are not interested in working for a large firm as a medical consultant. Depends on what you want to do really.
