So I'm planning to apply to med school this cycle, and I'm interested in pursuing a joint MD/MPH degree. I know for sure that for some schools, you don't apply for the MPH program until you've been admitted to their med school. Is this how it is for all schools? Or do some of them do admissions for the dual degrees during the MD admissions process?

On AMCAS, I checked MD/MPH for the schools that offer it. Do those schools send you MPH application stuff when they send you secondaries or what?

Basically, how does the process for dual degrees normally work?

You are correct that some schools don't really address this issue until a student has been accepted, but there are several schools that do NOT operate this way. For many schools, when an applicant is applying to a combined program they are interviewing for a position in the medical school as well as a position in the graduate school. Some of these programs interview for both positions during the medical school interview season (i.e. sometimes the grad school will send you additional application information if necessary).

If you are interested in a combined program, it would behoove you to check the box on AMCAS that states this interest.
