So I'm an environmental/energy professional who has been considering medicine for a while. I think medicine is a good fit for my personality and strengths, but I've been reluctant to leave a field I care very deeply about. But lately I've started to think that maybe these paths aren't mutually exclusive. Global environmental change, the energy crisis, air pollution, etc. are all inextricably linked to human health and well-being.
When I looked a little harder, I found sites like this one: http://chge.med.harvard.edu/index.html. An entire center at HMS dedicated to this intersection! And the dual degree program at Stanford with their Interdisciplinary Program on Environment and Resources: http://iper.stanford.edu/study/requirements.html#ms. So maybe I'm not so crazy after all.
Interested in getting you aspiring physician/scientists' opinions on pursuing this path. Do you think there is a way to reconcile my interest in medicine and global change?
