Hello,

I've heard, from the viewpoint of other MD/PhDs that what field you do your PhD in doesn't matter, and that the fact you have research experience is what most programs consider - I was wondering from the viewpoint of current residents and this year's applicants, what they think of the "usefulness" of a phd in a non-bone/cartilage related field when applying for an orthopaedic residency?....just for another point of view out of curiousity.

I would agree with what you heard. I don't think even the most academic program would find you less of a candidate because your phd wasn't in bone. A PhD alone is impressive enough and shows you are a total stud.
