MD School List Suggestions

GPA: 3.73
MCAT: 510 (84th percentile)
125 CARS, 128 Chem/Physics, 130 Bio, 127 Psych


ECs: - 1.5 years of research (1 publication very soon)
- Medical Scribe (started 3 months ago, working in ER)
- 50 hours shadowing general practitioner
- 50 - 60 hours shadowing neurosurgeon
- Volunteer at Hospital (75 hours+)
- Red Cross (20-30 hours)

Major: Biology, psych minor

I need suggestions on compiling a list of MD schools, I'm looking to apply to around 15 schools. Thanks!

Add all of the jersey schools for sure. Including Cooper. Avoid low yield schools! MCW would be a great addition as well. Would remove that California school you listed though. I think that will put you around 15ish

If you apply to all the schools on your list as well as the 3 NJ MD schools you should receive several interviews.

I'll take it off my list and replace it with Western Michigan, and I'm thinking of adding Commonwealth. Most of the schools on my list (except my state schools) receive 7,000+ applicants, and so I am kind of uneasy because of that.

If I remember correctly stryker is pretty in state specific, I'd add some Texas schools before I added them (if I'm right). Would add commonwealth before that. Wedgedawg's app rating system would be a good resource to fill in the gaps.

According to the MSAR, they don't mention anything about giving preference to in-state applicants but I will try asking them directly.

I'm sorry you're correct! They have admitted a decent amount of OOS students in the past. I don't know where I was thinking.

I'd remove Rosalind and put VCU. I'm personally not a fan of Ros like many people on SDN. Also depending on your feelings about Omaha vs Chicago I'd probably replace Creighton with Rush. Additionally get rid of GW too low yield. Try UVM instead. Also for drexel maybe throw in EVMS or UMiami instead. Drexel is also low yield.

(low yield=they get tons of apps for seats/interviews depending on your view of the term)

OP should not apply to Rush. They are very service oriented and have a well-hidden requirement of 150 hours of service, with a lot more recommended. Though they will pretend that they already told you this when they reject you.

So is Creighton though from what I remember. Would just sub in EVMS and UM for the two suggestions.

Well Rush would be a 0% chance of getting an interview. I'm not familiar with Creighton. Low-yields like GW are marginally better than Rush.

Agreed on EVMS and Miami. Maybe Einstein but MCAT is a little low (same for Miami).

Just tack on MPH/MD for Miami and the MCAT score goes down one point 😀 (according to my interview). It's the stronger program there in my opinion anyways!

Creighton also seems to be very service oriented, I'm going to replace it with EVMS and leaning towards adding Miami

Einstein has more research grants and the same MCAT/GPA requirements and number of applicants as Miami. And your proximity to NY may help. Although they are a private school they accept a lot of IS students.
