Ya mon, dey be in da Caribbean, if you are into dat sorta ting.

rochester didn't used to but i think they do now...? you'd have to check.

I think the only good ones that don't require the MCAT are the ones with the 7-8 year BA/MD programs, where you have to maintain a certain GPA and then you are automatically accepted.

I know Ross (Carribean school) now requires you take the MCAT--although their cutoff is probably around 24, if there even is a cutoff. They started to realize that high MCAT scores correlate with success in med school. Go figure!

Dartmouth website says that those who choose to apply without MCAT scores will be at a "significant disadvantage". Guess that means you CAN apply but you won't get very far.

now why in the world wouldn't you want to take mcat? it's such a fun test!!! 😛

Some listed that they didn't require the MCAT (Hopkins is a noteable example), but if you look at their websites you'll see MCAT averages and statements about the MCAT throughout their admissions criteria.

Like wiping after dropping a deuce, the MCAT is the dirty thing that everyone has to do to be accepted.

A few of the second and third tier caribbean schools, and McMaster in Canada (which will take your application money and never contact you again).

Saba (in the Caribbean), a perhaps 1.5 tier school (not approved in California yet, a key indicator of quality) doesn't require them (yet). The Big 3 carib schools do.

hahahahaha...but if you think about it, if NOT wiping was the acceptable thing to do then it would be like the MCAT...I don't know about you all, but I don't wipe my ass only to be accepted, relative to walking around dirty all day I rather enjoy it :meanie:

I have a classmate who was conditionally accepted to Ross, pending his MCAT score. He made a 22 on it. We're all wondering now what is going to happen-do you think they'll still take him?

Good question. The recruiter I am in contact with keeps downplaying the MCAT. As long as their grades are good, I think 22 might be ok.
But I'm just some guy on the inernet. 😀

PM me if you want the email to that guy.

Thats not true anymore. Hopkins used to not require the MCATs back in 96 or 97, but ever since then they have required the MCAT.

nah I'm sure he's in contact with them already since it will affect whether he goes this fall or not. Thanks though!

In Quebec if you go through the CEGEP program you don't have to take the MCAT. This is a very specific case which you probably don't apply to/for...everyone else accepted (meaning, post-bachelor's/from university) has to take them. Just the CEGEP kids get out of it.

I don't think MCAT is a requisite for applying to Johns Hopkins.

I've never heard of any.

I would be wary of any school that didn't... how good could that school be?

McMaster and U of Ottawa in Canada both don't require the MCAT. McMaster has to be hands down one of the best schools, so I wouldn't say that all schools that don't look at the MCAT are crappy.

from Hopkins' website:

Standardized Test Requirements

The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is required for all applicants to The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Guess they do. I also thought they didnt for some reason

True, but you can count the number of people who've gotten into Mac without the MCAT on one hand. Mac just loves having every med student in Canada applying to them (and collecting their fee)!

McMaster, for whatever reason (though I hear this will change soon as the school has a new dean).

U. of Ottawa nad the new Northern Ontario School of Medicine because both have a mandate to accept French-speaking students and the MCAT is only offered in English.

Foreign medical schools probably wouldn't; however, you might have to take their medical exam which may be even more difficult.
