I give this trolling about a 3/10 because I'm being generous.

I'll bite.. I'm bored.
If you're interested in PM&R I think it'd be cool/useful to be able to use OMM for pain management.. but you can learn that as an MD if you go out of your way or do a traditionally DO residency.. Meaning it was under AOA before the merger.
Your interests will likely change in medical school though OP. Go in with an open mind w/ regards to specialty.

They are both the same now that there is no grade replacement.

If you're genuinely set on PM&R, then go DO because OMM will be sought after.
This is probably the only time I would recommend going DO over MD.

I didn't say they can't, it's just easier to go to a school that has the subject built in the curriculum.MDs can learn OMM though.
PM&R isn't competitive by any means, and if OP is set on the specialty and doesn't care for prestigious, it really doesn't matter.

PM&R is so DO friendly that it doesn't matter. We've sent grads to residencies at Big Name places for this.
Terrible advice in this thread. Always go MD over DO, no matter what.

QFT.
OP, your choice of specialty might/will change. Let's say you wake up one day as an MS3 and decide doing cataracts is the bestest. Ophtho is competitive.
A major factor to consider between MD and DO is a substantial difference in tuition.

The matching numbers haven't changed much, but the USMLE scores have been going up. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets tougher to match into in the next coming years. However, I doubt DOs will be that affected by it due to degree alone. PM&R is by far the most DO friendly field with interview percentages matching MD students.
I literally loled hard when I saw the title of this thread. OP, there is a search function that allows for users to access past threads. This topic has been covered many times before.

For PM&R, go DO over MD.

While your interview rate is the same, the match rate is greater for MDs. There are only 6 programs on the DO side also. MD is still the better choice.

Wouldn't sGPA for DO still be calculated differently?
AMCAS uses BCPM
AACOMAS doesn't include math in science gpa calculations and incorporates other sciences that AMCAS doesn't
My sGPA was higher for AMCAS(thank you math classes!) and slightly lower in AACOMAS
John F. Kennedy University School of Medicine on Curacao Island
Had to look this up-- it actually exist! NO MCAT REQUIRED! (The website layout/interface looks like a middle schooler designed it)
OP pick this!!! I'd give up my DO and U.S MD acceptances for a prestigious Caribbean MD

i found an incredible and sad description of this school on valueMD that made me literally rofl.
- JFK is not accredited by WHO (Avicenna)
- JFK has no professor except a lady (dean) who opened it after being fired from CMU for the lowest students evaluations for 3 semesters in a row.
- JFK doesn't have a single student in rotations nor one hospital
- JFK doesn't have more than few students dismissed from CMU and Avalon
- JFK has NO campus, NO labs and NO dorms. JFK is a nothing more than one rented office and a classroom
- JFK has NO financial aid, NO students loans. It would have to exist for at least 10 years to be eligible for Canadian government loans.
- JFK doenst have even one student attempted USMLE not to mention passing it so STEP 1 PASSING RATE is ZERO
- JFK has ZERO graduates and ZERO residents.

I was being slightly sarcastic with that comment.... But yes you are correct sGPA is calculated different for AAMCAS.... at least for now!
Hey everyone. I had a quick question. If I had to choose between MD and DO what would be the things I should think about in making a decision between these two types of schools? I'm interested in PM&R specifically.
Thanks guys
Choose DO above else. Then Caribbean and lastly US MD. Osteopathic manipulation is a great opportunity and trumps what Harvard medical school offers.
This didn't need to be bumped for a dubious attempt at a joke in an already suspect thread. This thread serves no purpose. Locking.
