So, mdapplicants.com finally hit 500 profiles, which was my sort of arbitary cutoff for legitimacy. It doesn't necessarily have any particular statistical integrity, but it's a nice round number that makes the site sound like its hit the Big Time. Thanks to all who contributed; I hope it serves to be a useful tool for future applicants. As always, if you have problems with the site or suggestions, let me know!

On to the summary and a few miscellaneous statistics from these almost 4 months and 500+ profiles....

This site indexes 515 profiles, with an average overall GPA of 3.62 and an average MCAT score of 31.6. These applicants applied to an average of 13.7 schools, were invited to an average of 6.1 interviews, and received an average of 2.4 acceptances. Since the launch of this site on January 9th, 2003, there have been 27,600 visitors and 115,079 searches performed.

And, finally, for the record, I am not female.

Lose the avatar with the hair bow, and I think some of the gender confusion would go with it. 😛

Seriously though, thanks for a great website. It's definitely been helpful to me.

Power to you! Only real men can sport "hello kitty" and still maintain their masculinity! 😀
Thanks for all your work on the site! Hopefully, the data for this cycle will be complete after the summer--it's hard to get a completely accurate picture since there's no waiting status built in (i.e. post-interview waits show up as rejections). The search feature is really nice though!

Check out the big brain on applicant #483

Is this data validated? Although one would like to think that medical students are honest, sometimes you wonder if there really are students out there with 4.0 GPAs and 43 MCATs.

I agree, keep hello kitty, I think it's neat🙂. I used to make websites all the time and they took a LOT of time. But, keep up the good work and kudos to you! 😀

Great site! I'm not sure if your site allows updates so that applicants could update their status but if it doesn't, maybe you could consider this feature in future versions.

Yeah, you can update your stuff. 🙂

Xaelia-

Don't wanna sound too anal but I think this is an important point. I don't think that reviewing an applicant profile that says "Hispanic" is gonna do much good since it will inevitably contain both URMs and non-URMs. I think that its important that people looking at the site be able to distinguish between the two.

Sorry, I haven't lloked at this thread in a while. I would suggest simply breaking down the race/ethnicity thing further into the specific groups that the AAMC recognizes differently: Mexican-American and Puerto Rican American (I think that's it). The simple difference between being Mexican and Costa Rican (myself) is huge with respects to medical school. When I see a student there with a 3.3 and an acceptance to Duke labelled as "Hispanic," I'd bet money that that student is Mexican and not Colombian, for example. Anyway, it would help to be able to pick out the URM's from the non-URM's. Thanks.
