After spending the last few months intermittently browsing the Pre-Allopathic forum, there has been this one particular recurring theme I have noticed in the postings:

"My name is X, my stats are Y, do I have a chance to get into Z (or any) medical school?"

Or, in response to postings regarding interview invitations:

"What are your stats?"

To make a long story short, I created a website, in the database-driven-automated-searchable spirit of our fondly ressurrected Interview Feedback, where those who have completed the process could share a brief profile of stats, general information and the final disposition of their files at the schools they applied to.

As this site is in its early stages (launched it this morning), it desperately needs contributions from the community to be useful to prospective medical school applicants. As members of this forum have already been admitted to medical school, it would be extremely helpful if you would take a moment to help out future premeds by add your profile to the database, and to share the URL of this site among your friends at your medical school. I am hoping to have 500-1000 profiles by June in order to have a minimally useful sample size for the next wave of medical school applications.

Thanks!

seems kind of rude to only make a site for MD applicants. i understand that it has a nice ring to it, but maybe DO applicants want to know the stats for schools that they are applying to.

Hrm, good point - I didn't think of that when naming the site. Osteopathic schools are listed on the site, but I was just thinking MD == Doctor, and completely forgot about DO.

that's cool, i think most people think that, i guess i used to too. i didn't mean to sound harsh. good luck w/your site. susan

No, you're right; I should have been more thoughtful in picking a more all-encompassing title if I hoped to reach the greatest number of prospective medical students.

43 profiles on the first day of existence...neat stuff. Something tells me StudentDoctor.net is a little top-heavy for the applicant pool, as 7/9ths of the profiles have had MCATs of 30 or higher....

Xaelia, nice job with the site!! Wish I had something like that when I was applying. I'll bet you get many, many hits. Hope we can provide enough info to be useful.

Good luck with it all!

Or maybe it's just that those who are proud of their stats are more likely to submit them than those who aren't.. 🙂

i like the site and contributed. but when you look for the list of schools, it only shows down to tufts.

Or maybe there is a bit of stats inflating going on? Nah! No one would be doing that. . . would they? 🙄

Disclaimer: I am not claiming purifyer is, or ever has, inflated his/her stats; however, I can imagine there have been others that pulled out the MCAT/GPA pump.

Or maybe a DO student could make their own DO website. I don't think there is ANYTHING rude about making a website for MD applicants.

look, i have apologized for calling him rude, and just think it would have made more sense, as he has admitted. either way, his site is great and will be useful to me as an applicant. i think it's just more constructive to unite the two since they have the same end goal. s

They aren't the same end goals, they both deal with different school sets. I just question why it's the person's responsibility to include a group of which he is not a member. It isn't something he needs to concern himself with

Nice job with the website... VERY COOL.

Cheers,

Thanks everyone who contributed! This has definitely grown faster than I expected, particularly with it pretty much only being known in this little corner of the world right now.

After the first 3 1/2 days of existence, there are currently 96 profiles on the site and there have been over 5000 searches and 177MB of data transferred already. Seeing it become so popular so quickly definitely motivated me to go back and clean up some of my rushed SQL hacks to make it run searches more efficiently.... 😉
