How reliable is this site? Are people lying about their grades and MCAT scores? I ask because all the average acceptance stats listed on MDapplicants.com are WAY higher than the schools report. Reading MDapplicants.com scares me🙁

I think for the most part it's true. There are a few faux profiles from trolls that want to talk about AA for the 2350000 time.

Don't forget though. The average SDNer (as well as the people who post on mdapplicants.com) are so into trying to get into medicine. So that's why you see such high numbers.

Just take a look around this year and see the great success of the regular SDN posters

I'll register with my 29 MCAT to bring the average down.
Don't be scared, I've had/will have 7 interviews, have 2 acceptances and am waiting to hear from some schools I interviewed/will interview at. Of course MCAT isn't everything, but still.

I somewhat doubt the accuracy of mdapplicants.com. some may be true, but some may also be false. i take everything on there with a grain of salt. anyone can post bogus info on there. everyone should know that in this world, there's more lies out there than truths.

Some people may also be posting their info before the end of their apllication process. So, for example, I tried it out and put in the schools I was applying to, clicked that I had gotten secondaries from some, an interview at another. Unless you click "accepted" it says in your profile that you were rejected, even if you are still waiting to hear back.

So, my theory is, some of the profiles have been left incomplete, thus showing that that genius with a 40 MCAT and 4.0 GPA was rejected to all 20 schools that they applied to. I think people may havce the tendancy to post their incomplete profile out of excitement for the application process, then never update it after they are accepted.

Kind of annoying, this site could be helpful, but the way it is you can't trust the statistics.

Self-selection bias.

Also, since it defaults to "rejection", the people who don't update their profile with acceptances or withdrawals (which, I'm guessing, is fairly common) inflate the stats of rejected applicants.

Considering the site is anonymous if you choose, there really is no incentive to lie. I think the biggest problem is that people that DONT get in are less likely to post their profile, severly skewing the profiles upwards, which is why you see a group of people with a 3.68/34 not getting in umich. those guys im sure got in other schools.

Anyways, I think its a great site, but anything there should be taken with a grain of salt.

This site is obviously skewed toward people with the higher GPAs and MCATs... people who are more "OCD" about applying to medical school. I wouldn't take the averages very seriously. Even the averages in US News seem too high based on the interviews I and others have received (those of us with ~30 MCATS).

Maybe I've asked this before, but are you Dr. Kevin40?

dr kevin, r u telling me that you have an ~30 mcat and got cali acceptances already? if true, i guess i have some more faith in how fair the whole process is. congrats!
