Why is everyone getting so mean? I have seen several rude/hurtful/mean posts lately. We are all in this together, everyone is doing their best and trying to get into school. I think the best thing we can do for each other is offer support and guidance. I know the stress is getting to everyone but "can't we all just get along"?

i agree. been seeing a couple of rude posts.

Yeah. Trolls.

Alright, tell me what you think then to this question (remember, NOT how you feel!). Why is it that you wish to be an Occupational Therapist (a profession about helping people) when your attitude towards others is anything but positive?

And you are right, OT's are strong. They are also respectful, know how to work with others, and are professional. I don't care what your stats are, but if this is how you respond towards others then I fail to see how you will ever succeed as an Occupational Therapist.

Really inappropriate comments.

Agreed. Too much whining from little girls with thin skin then suggesting one has to be such to be a great OT. Florence Nightingale'd be embarassed. Time to grow up.

If you're signed in, then you can report mean and inappropriate posts by clicking the little triangle found underneath the poster's name. I strongly encourage reporting the mean posts!

Thanks - I didn't realize there was a troll triangle - never saw the need for one before now...

250ish volunteer hours? So, how did the OT finally get you to buzz off?

Agreed, we are all in this together. I think most of us on here are either very interested in the field or we are passionate about making this our career. The best thing we can do is to ignore those posts and not give those people any attention :troll:. Report them and move on. There are plenty of people on here who are supportive and can offer great advice and constructive criticism when needed. I personally love reading all of the wonderful posts and contributing my advice on here. :biglove: I'm excited for my future in OT and to see so many people passionate abut a fulfilling and helpful career.

You know the old saying, "Misery loves company?" Be not deluded ... in the history of OT programs and their consequent admission processes, NEVER has a group been welcomed as such. Only after they arrive, do they become a team, "one" if you will. So be sure ...you are in this alone as an applicant and it is solely up to you to get done that which you must to be competitive.

And to be certain, the BEST thing anyone can do to utilize this tool is to pay attention to those who are genuinely informed, unpatronizing (even mean? 😱), and recognize this is a challenging, worthy calling requiring careful planning, total execution, and high performance. And whining and talk about painful realities being "mean" or showing an "attitude" is not only immature, but destructive and demeaning to those who refuse to partake. Let's all grow up and reflect this calling as worthy of our best. Just imagine what those OT profs and program heads think of such silliness.👎

Consider it "tough love!"😍👍

there are GUYS IN OT too... hahah just saying!!! saw a comment about "crying lil girls" hahha i am a male!!

Of course you are. And it shows! You're laughing, not whining! Way to go! A breath of fresh air!:luck:

hmmm....so THAT was a "mean" post...wow! I guess that was toward to the end of the month. I thought it was funny and light-hearted😍...if that didn't get a smirk outta one of you then I failed. But I think it did...I'm still laughing:meanie:....

Anyway, volunteer hours are to give you an idea about OT....250 hours in 7 places? It's a bit excessive and I was poking fun at it but apparently you took exception to that. What are you going to do when you're in a program with 30-40 different personalities? Or when you enter the profession and have a difficult patient or supervisor? You could always put in another 250 hours creating a "burn book" or as I like to call it, "dairy of a wimpy kid."

*and I wish you the best of luck :luck: so please don't think I am mean.

It doesn't matter if you think it's excessive. I was looking into the profession and deciding if it's what I want...so. There you have it. I shadowed at a lot of places, but I don't know why you think that's a sign that I wouldn't get along with people? If I didn't, I wouldn't have good letters of recommendation and would have been "found out" at the interviews. And some people have more volunteering than me... I don't think you were funny with that comment. It came across as rude, but hey, that's fine too.

yaaaaaawn...oh, did you say something?😴

You are going to break the first, well, I guess the second, time someone says or writes something you don't like. Get over yourself...please.
