Hello,

I am a first year medical student and know this has been discussed before but i have found no new thread since 2010. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations about which review book to use? I own both but want to use one as a primary study guide and the other only when necessary. any advice on which one to use more for the step and for school in general?

Thanks a bunch!

I have both and I can honestly say go for FA. Medessentials is simply a bunch of tables that were taken from the Kaplan LN series. The FA book is so much better and much more HY then Medessentials.

100% agree. I like Kaplan's Lecture series, but the review book is First Aid, hands down, donezo. (Also RR Path)

Goljan: My very first review I listened to Goljan along with reading RR, its a very dense book but it has some great points, the problem is I can never remember anything. I switched to Pathoma and so far done most of the chapters. I feel like its sticking more however I feel most of the credit can be givenh to Gunnertraining in terms of sticking. When I finish Pathoma I will go back to Goljan to really get some of the finer details that Pathoma lacks.

Basics: Pathoma
Advance: Goljan
