I haven't seen anyone talking about the MED program at UNC Chapel-Hill this year. I was wondering if anyone out there will be attending the program this summer.

I'll be participating in the MED program this year. Any others out there? What are people's thoughts on the program, the workload, and the social environment? Is it pretty cut-throat or is collaborative work encouraged?

not many?

Awww... good luck you guys. I did this program last summer. Its definitely really hard, but not impossible and I learned a lot, developed some really good study habits and I made some really great friends. I definitely didn't ace every subject, but I did pretty well overall can go into med school knowing how I'm going to attack certain subjects and study for certain classes so that in itself will give me an advantage.

Its going to be pretty hard. Just pace yourself and try your hardest... its only 9 weeks!

Lol...we complained a lot, but I can look back and say that I'm glad I did it.... just writing this brings back memories.... 🙄

Oh yeah, I would say that if you plan on applying for med school to the class that starts in 2009, definitely do your AMCAS and get your PS written BEFORE you start the program. You will be pressed to find time during the 9 weeks to get it done. Also, I would not suggest trying to study for the MCAT and MED at the same time... I had friends who did and it did not fare well for them.

:luck::luck::luck::luck::luck::luck: to you!!!

Hi,

I found out yesterday that I was accepted to the MED program. I am excited and a little nervous at the same time. I have a few questions about taking the MCAT after MED. I hear good things and bad things about it. The bad thing is that if you are not ready and not scoring well on practice tests and rush to take it, you may not do well and it can hurt you. If you take it afterwards, you will not have time to study for it during MED and you will be so burned out from the program. But I think they are gearing towards the last 3 weeks of the program focusing on MCAT/DAT prep, I don't know yet. Any advice is greatly appreciated, and tips on doing well in the program.

More than likely you will not have time to do both during the summer. So my advice is to study for the exam before or after MED. If you want to study for the exam during the summer than my advice is to not do the MED program because you probably won't have time to do both. This is based off of completing the program and having heard many of the students saying that they didn't have time to do both. Some people actually drop the program the first week once they find out they won't have time to do both.

So save yourself some time and stress and make your decision now as to what you will do for the summer. MED or MCAT/DAT scores? Which do you need to do? Is it possible for you to study later? If so, do MED. If not, don't do MED and study for your exam. Finally, after the program, you will probably be tired and won't want to study for the exam, but you have to do what you have to do if that's what you decide. Good luck.
