Do you think med school administrators are aware of all the bootlegs people use to study for boards, etc? Do you think they choose to ignore it, since it probably helps their school's pass rate?

It's not their business.

Do they care about their students bootlegging music? Pirating computer software? etc?

If someone told them that Student X was using school computers to distribute illegal materials... then they'd probably take action. Otherwise, they've got bigger fish to fry.

I think we were told not to use school equiptment to violate copyright laws. And if some loser told the Dean we were emailing bootleg Goljan audio, we'd probably get an email about it. Other than that, we were just told by our Board study skills specialist that she wouldn't comment on bootleg Goljan audio or endorse it's use. So yeah, they know. But as mentioned above, I think they have more important things to think about. As an aside, your use of the phrase "all the bootlegs" made me feel like I'm missing out on some bootlegs, which upsets me.

As long as you keep it on the downlow, the admin will look the other way. Just don't announce it on the school's mailing list or use the school's computers to announce/copy/disseminate the bootlegs and you will be fine.

Yep...that's the way it's been done for generations!

If all you know about is Goljan's audio, you are missing out. There is enough out there to keep you busy for the rest of your medical career.

Do you mean bootleg audio or we talking books too?

We had a lecture with one of these "specialists" that they specifically hired to come talk to us last year. Let me guess, it was some lady who has a BS in educational studies telling a classroom full of med students how to perform well on step 1 all the while wearing a long white coat. Also, the last standardized test she took was the SAT 6 years ago. I just love the title too: "board study skills specialist". It's like calling a janitor a custodial technician or a sanitation officer.

I just think third year has made me bitter. I am feeling especially salty today after seeing a "rotating" nursing student walking around with a ridiculously long white coat constantly checking her pager and making a big show of it all. I wanted to punch her in the throat.

We have a person come from Haaavaard to teach us how to take the boards. She was really hyped by the admins. I set up a meeting with her to discuss strategies. She knew less than I did. All you really need to know is in the SDN Step I thread. 👍

Our dean emailed us in the beginning telling us to not market bootlegs or use school facilities. Other than that, what we do on our time...

That's not exactly her title, and she doesn't wear a long coat, and she had a PhD, but that doesn't mean she's necessarily any more helpful than your specialist. We shall see. Right now I'm trying not to pull my hair out over all the crap that I'm getting Qbank questions on that no one at school ever taught me.
