So, I just withdrew from the Columbia waitlist and the office sent me a letter saying they were sorry I was withdrawing and best of luck with my med school choice. It was signed (and I think it was his signature, unless someone else in the office can sign his signature exactly on) by the Dean of Admissions. Regardless, I think it was classy.

U Michigan also sent me a letter wishing me luck when I withdrew pre-interview. I think this is a nice tough, considering how much time, energy, and money we put into our apps. Any others out there?

Univ. SC sent me a letter wishing me luck when I withdrew post-interview, and the assistant dean at Duke sent me an e-mail when I withdrew from the waitlist. One of the UNC admissions staff also wished me luck when I RSVP'd no to the 2nd Look weekend. No response from anyone else.

Stanford rocks on class. I was treated like royalty on interview day, they call applicants when accepted, and they have the decency to reject you outright if they are not interested rather than leaving you hanging. I just recently sent my withdrawal letter, so don't know anything about that as of yet.

I also got a very nice letter from my interviewer from AECOM - essentially saying she knew I probably wouldn't go there, but if I had questions about other schools or about residency decisions in the future I should email her. Very classy!!

um - well, you know, i have gotten several letters from columbia - all signed by dean frantz, and the sigs are all different...

Yeah, Columbia is a mixed bag...I can't say I like the volume they interview and what I can only imagine is the size of the waitinglist, but Dean Frantz is really an awfully nice guy who is really making a sincere effort to personally respond to everyone who sends him a letter, even if you're not one of his "select few". There's just simply a finite amount of time in the universe....

stanford has never contacted me since i turned in my primary! (other than to respond to my e-mail when i got sick of waiting to see if i was going to get a secondary -- they were very prompt with this)
hello???? where are the stanford pre-secondary rejection letters? i know some people got them but they seem to have forgotten to make contact witih some of the august mcaters.

to be honest, the only admissions office that i've contacted that had no class was loyola. once i called and they were rude to me. the other time they called me at 6 something in the morning!! everyone else has been very professional, though i'm almost always treated like a number. guess that's what they do for people like me who are selling their souls and clinging on for dear life to try to get one acceptance. 🙄 letters of interest, additional lors (that i wrote myself and had signed -- "lola is the most wonderful person in the world with no faults 🙄"), update letters, what bull SHlT!! i will never stoop so low as to schedule second interviews with deans. i find it disgusting that certain people want you to come begging at their doorsteps. i also find it disgusting that schools have created special masters programs where basically you are buying your way into school. it is so sickening! phew. enough venting for the day 🙂

i thought it was nice that gtown knew all of our names on the interview day. they interview so many people that i don't know how they do that!

I have found that Northwestern seems to have a lot of class, Hallen Chung is extremely helpful/prompt with her email responses...nice touch having the Dean send a semi-personalized thank you for interviewing with her

Yale, pretty decent for a school that has their pick of the litter, Richard Sliverman responded really quickly to my annoying " "where am I on the waitlist" email, he even threw in some humor for good measure

While the people in the office may be nice, and while it is very nice that Stanford does not send secondaries to individuals they probably wouldn't accept, it is annoying, even rude, to charge people $50 (or whatever it is) just to run their stats through a computer program.

I gotta say I think Jefferson's admissions office has class (no bias here 😀 ) That is, they generally welcomed people to call and ask questions, and they call you for acceptances. I think the admissions office also really promotes the social aspects of their school. Hershmann said that she read everyone's personal statement thoroughly.
MCW was nice too, they paid for a shuttle from the airport for us, and in general I think that the office staff really made you feel welcome, even on the phone. Best of all, they notify you as to A/W/R within two weeks of your interview.

jmwalker,

i've noticed the same thing about columbia. i think i've received letters with at least 3 different signatures---probably the poor secretaries have to sign hundreds of letters a day (or maybe a work study student 😉 ). well, at least they're trying!

U of Maryland....without a doubt.

It was their admissions office that was influencial in my decision to matriculate there.

They have been helpful in answering all my questions before and after my acceptance. I am on a first name basis with most of the people in the office and received a personal email from the Dean of Admissions regarding a specific pre-req question.

I have already offered my services to them in the future for touring applicants and interviewees.
