hi guys,

I just wanted to get some opinions from you guys on my chances.

My GPA is 3.12. I've taken practice MCATs and averaged a 30-31. I've also done a decent amount of shadowing and I have about 2 years of research with a possible publication coming up. Can anyone give me any options? I'm looking into both MD and DO. I know my GPA is low for MD but I want to give it a try.

Also, sorry if I posted this in the wrong section. First post here. 🙂

See sector9's sticky at the top of this forum for chances for success rates of past MD applicants depending on their MCAT score and cGPA. For All Applicants with a 3.12/31, their odds were about 30% for an acceptance. Keep in mind that this number includes those from underrepresented populations, with lenient state schools, and those who have completed postbac programs with a high science GPA, besides other special considerations.

Chances for DO (as well as MD) would depend on how high your sGPA is.

Chances for either will also depend on your acquiring some active clinical experience. Shadowing being a passive observership doesn't cover this expectation. It's a good idea to have community service as well.
