I think he means "other than taxes, what is the difference between gross income and net income?"

Gross income is what you earn. Net income is what you take home. Typically when you are an employee you will have federal and state/local (if applicable) taxes, social security, medicare. All of those are generally viewed as taxes though depending on who you talk to. That's about it.

Yes, but with locums I don't have anything taken out of my checks ever because I am an independent contractor, not an employee. I save for taxes to pay at the end. I am also incorporated so that saves me money in the end.

Cabinbuilder,

Do you work every single day of the 8 months? or do you get the chance to come home, let say, every other weekend?

I understood from your posts that you take plenty of lengthy vacations. However, when you are working do you ever get time off to spend with the family or is the only time you spend with them when are completely off?

Another question, if your kids were grown already and your husband decided to travel around with your to your working sites, is that feasible?

Thank you,

NO, I don't work every single day but the work schedule is determine by the site. My current site I am doing urgent care six days a week, 12 hour shifts. I am close enough that I have gone home on the weekends where I had 2 days in a row. Many sites are too far away for me to go back an forth so I do a six, eight, ten ween stint then take a break and go home for 1-2 weeks before heading to the next job. I generall take my breaks when the kids are on break, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring break, and part of the summer. I have done other breaks but the kids are so busy is essentially husband time, stock the house, cooking ahead, and heading out again. I don't ever work more than 2-3 months in a row without taking a break. I worked a job that was 2 hr drive from my house but the road was all mountains. I went home ever weekend on that one. I have worked where I have driving an hour each way and am home every night. Just depends.

As far as my husband going with me, yes that is totally the plan once my daughter graduates. There would be no reason for him to sit at home alone. Or he will be free to pursue whatever is on his own wish list, etc.
