So what's the deal with medical school fraternities? Do most schools have them?

I have no interest whatsoever in being in a frat, however, I've heard from several people that med school frats are mainly for extremely cheap rent. They are also nothing like undergrad frats, or so I've been told.

I must say I'm intrigued, and would like to learn more about them. Anyone have insight?

I've heard of pre-med frats, but the closest thing to a frat I know about at my school is the AOA honors society. Maybe they are super secret invite only? 😀

I live in a med school frat and love it. As someone said before, the rent is really cheap.
I was by no means a frat guy in undergrad, and all of the people who live here weren't frat members in undergrad either. Having never been in a frat, I can't directly compare our house to an undergrad frat, but I must say it it shares very little of the perceptions associated with undergrad frats. I really enjoy my house mates, and I feel like the environment is very conducive to learning medicine.
This is my first year here, but I intend to live here for the rest of med school.
If you have any specific questions, let me know.

I could only imagine the fun that could be had if a med school frat was like any of the undergrad fraternities at my school. I wasn't even aware that there are med school frats (or graduate school fraternities other than honor societies).

Sounds like lamersville!
IDK when I think of a frat, I think of drunk blonds everywhere with budlight cans tied to their waists'.

Oh yea...

That's glad to hear. How often do medical students party?

Depends very much on your priorities. Plenty of people go out drinking 2-3 nights a week consistently. Some drink even more, like I said if its a priority you can fit it in.

are girls allowed? and can you retain alum status from your UG greek affiliation?

I would be inclined to say yes.

NIC Fraternities are typically not mutually exclusive with either local Fraternities or professional Fraternities (e.g. business or chemistry Fraternities). I have known Greek Life Coordinators for campuses that have belonged to both a national and a local Fraternity, or a national and a professional Fraternity.

Since a med school Fraternity would probably be classified as a professional Fraternity, I'm guessing you could retain your alum status.

That's not too much to ask right? I would hate it for it to be like the premed frats that are on my campus, talk about boring.
